, i'm jon scott.or the city of naples, florida, which saw some of the worst impact from hurricane irma. joining us with more from naples, steve harrigan. steve. >> reporter: signs of the damage visible throughout the day time all around the naples area. the wind gusts here on sunday afternoon caught up to 142 miles per hour at their peak. that was strong enough to pull up trees from their roots, snap them in half and really damage a lot of houses as well, especially rooftops. confined pieces of the roots all over the streets. a powerful storm also with flooding. 3-4 feet underwater from the flooding. rescue crews really moving throughout the area. it's been tough getting the roads clear for them to do that. any downed trees and power lines blocking the roads. the palm trees did pretty well even at the height of the storm but it's those nonnative trees, some giant ones that came crashing down all around naples. it is an eerie situation right now around the city, almost completely in darkness. the entir

jon?ally be terrifying when super storm sandy hit new york city, there was one that came untethered and had folks scared. 150-mile-an-hour winds, four stories up, you can easily see that in miami. let's hope those cranes live up to their billing in terms of what they can take. bryan llenas, thank you. we will head back to daytona beach. rick leventhal is there where it appears to be getting worse. rick? >> the winds are gusting here, jon, but we are at least four hours for the tropical storm. 48 hours from the hurricane force winds. the city of daytona beach is incredibly quiet. there was a mandatory evacuation issued around 5:00 p.m. friday for anyone in the low-lying area, anyone on the beach. and mobile homes, to vacate those. it is virtually empty here. the people who are left are being told to get out of the hotels on the beach by tomorrow morning, 11:00 a.m. all of the bridges between the beach and the mainland are set to close sometime sunday morning whenever the winds top 40 miles

i am jon scott in new york. the forecast for florida is growing ever more grim over the recent hours with the largest evacuation in state history currently underway. we just got a new storm advisory for a storm that seems to present florida its worst-case scenario. for the latest, we go to adam klotz. he joins us from the fox weather center. >> hey, we've just gotten the latest update. it came in at 11. we have seen a couple of changes. this was just a category 4 storm. back up now to a category 5 storm. that means the winds are back up to 160 miles an hour. to be a cat 510, you need to be 155 or greater. we passed that threshold. we are looking at the store but running up on some of these outer barrier islands to cuba that obviously has not we can do it. we gained a little bit of strength. we are expecting this to run across the coast in the overnight hours before eventually making a turn and heading towards the state of florida. we've seen some changes. previously, we were looking at this being a category 4 go
