joining me now, joni ernst. with us. >> it's great to be here. >> shannon: i know that something you while they're working on around the clock. there's controversy from the left and the right for the president's plans. what you think are the odds that it moves forward? >> certainly this is a great starting point. what the president has provided is his road map. it's up to congress to make those final decisions on where we go. whether it's the number of dreamers that are included, the 1.8 million that he has proposed or whether it's a smaller number, those are all things that congress will need to make a decision on. it's a great starting point but there are still a lot of questions that we have for his proposal in immigration and daca. we will have to work through that. >> shannon: at least the proposals we initially saw were so different. do think that the lawmakers can buy can really together? >> i'm very helpful in this regard. daca is not an issue that is owned by one side or the other. we all agree that we

senator joni ernst is here with us. what did you think of that? >> when they accuse the president of being bemeaning, it comes from both sides. we need a bipartisan group coming together to listen to the state of the union, listen to the president's message. listen to the accomplishments we've had the past your around let's focus on what we need to get done in the future. whether it's infrastructure, whether it's trade, whether it's strengthening our military. >> neil: will there be help on any of these fronts? >> i'm an eternal optimist. i hope that we can come together. i'm very pragmatic in understanding that the democrats are going to demand certain things that maybe we cannot reach those expectations. but we have to come together in a bipartisan way to get things done for the american people. >> neil: you know, i've always seen you, senator, i know you tried very hard obviously loyal to the president, a republican, but you call them as you see them. some of the comments the president has made lately, i believe you were at a group meeting in d
