with us for the hour today, joe terranova, josh brown, josh leventhal, john najarian with us as well. 110 days since a 1% decline or worse for either the dow or the s&p. is this about washington or something more? >> look, i think you had a lot of overbought charts, i think you had a lot of people with a lot of gains. yesterday you get some news that may be tampered, you know, dampens expectations for legislation, the health care bill is not looking great and people say, well, what does this do to all the tax stuff i was hoping for? we've been talking about this forever. at the end of the day, scott, though, the headlines are worse than the actual action. the vix is up 111%, which sound scary, but we had 12 spots 64. that's a total snooze. s&p is still up 11%. and then take a look overseas and everything's fine. >> so, doc, you've got bank of america down 5%, right? it's the banks that are getting ripped. goldman is getting hammered today. what's the story with some of these areas that are really getting hit the hardest, whether it's biotechs or the banks, under armour is the worst na

the reason why josh brown's call struck me, though, it really kind of struck and i said, wow, i got tohe fact i've been following josh, a reformed broker for years, and he's a money maker, is that fastenal's stock has made a remark al u-turn in recent months. it intrigued me. i think it's uniquely representative of what's working in this environment. after rebounding really kind of like crazy in the wake of the great recession, fastenal then hit a wall in 2012. stock rallied just 7%, lagging behind the s&p 500 up 12% over the same period. it did next to nothing in 2013 and 2014 and then lost 15% in 2015. then last year was a real roller coaster with fastenal trading from 40 up to 50 in the first few months before reversing and trading back down to 38 in early november. but since the election, like so many other cyclicals, this stock has caught fire, climbing up to 51 bucks and change as of today, including a near 10% rally just since the beginning of 2017. this begs the question what exactly ignited this cyclical's company's turnaround. after years of subpar performance, how has this s

with us for the hour today, joe, jim, josh brown here as well. so ian. we begin with the markets. the s&p down six of the past seven sessions. the dow now tracking for its eighth straight decline. but it is those financials that are the big story this hour. the worst month for the banks now in more than a year. josh, what is this about? is this all about rates, which aren't doing what people thought they were going to do. >> i think rates is in there. deregulation is in there. we've been talking about this stuff for a while. i would point out, actually, though, that beneath just pure price action, momentum on the sell side is stating to slow down. take a look at goldman sachs. starting to form a beautiful hammer. of course, we'll see where she closes, but that would be the type of thing you'd want to see, to say okay, enough is enough. also, scott r bear in mind, financials are still the top performing s&p sector going back to the election and quite frankly, by a lot. so, yeah, there's been damage here. along with a lot of other -- >> down 10%. morgan stanley's down ten. all of th

our josh brown was up tweeting about what he called the valeant depockal. what do you make of this story as we watch it unfold? >> anyone who runs money will tell you the market gods do not like it when other traders take joy in the pain or the misery of someone who has just blown up or had a bad trade. i feel people who are in it and i'm sure they will be fine and it is a really, really bad loss. it is a debacle of a stock. it has been for some time, but, obviously, that's accelerated. >> some will say as we look at this and ackman told me yesterday he didn't understand the issues at valeant and others say the writing was on the wall and if you simply listen to jim's own point of view over the years and remember ackman himself had a look at his research back in 2014. it was sent over to him. he read the whole thing. and he basically said chanos didn't know what he was talking about on valeant. let's listen and react on the other side. >> he sent me his 26-page analysis of the company. i went through every word. i had inside access and, unfortunately, jim d

with us for the hour, joe terranova, josh brown. snapchat stock up more than 45%. two traders getting in on that deal today. john and pete. what are you doing with them? >> well, i'm going to hold it, judge. instead of just flipping it. i oh put a poll out on twitter, i asked people what would they do if they got an allocation. 88% said dump it immediately. so a huge majority. >> i talked to a hedge fund guy a while ago who got an allocation and he said he's dumping it immediately. there's a lockup period for the insiders they can't sell for a year. but in terms lending, you need stock loan and so forth. in order to be able to do that, judge, you have to have somebody who will give you shares so you can lend them out and short it. that can't happen until settlement date now. by the documents that folks have signed. so that means three days, you can't short this stock. if you try, you could be actually even taken up on charges for it. so -- and i don't mean by these guys. i mean because you're violating securities law if you short it and capta and can't borrow it. i
