we want to bring in josh campbell. he's a cnn security correspondent, also a former fbi supervisory special agent josh first talk to us about the security measures that are in place around these kinds of buildings. and obviously the protocol that goes into place when something like this happens, it worked in this case, apparently as it was designed to yeah this is an effective security system. as you can see from the front of that buick suv, their smashed into what's called the final denial barrier. there, a layered security approaches to these federal buildings. you obviously have the iron gates and then that system that's in place there to prevent what this person allegedly attempted to do. and that is make entry into that building. what we've seen over the last couple of years, we've talked about these threats that have manifested against fbi employees. we know that the fbi stood up its own individual cell a unit just to track threats against fbi personnel. so it's something that they certainly have been taken king s

let's continue our conversation right now with cnn security correspondent josh campbell. josh police as you well know, have arrested hundreds of protesters. students, professors, activists across the country, do police need to have a tactical game plan when they wade into these protests on college let's campuses. >> yeah. well, if it is essential, the police have obviously been thrust into this ongoing issue and regardless of what side protesters are on and how righteous there cause might be, there is no first amendment right to protest on private property, and that's where the police have often been brought into some of these universities to try to clear them of trespassing asters. but as you mentioned, of course wolf, it's important for authorities to have a game plan there's a big difference between crowd management and crowd control. and crowd management, you have officers that are there on standby just in case something happens. sometimes they'll facilitate first amendment activity and crowd control. you're trying to get the protesters to do something that you want to

let's bring it now, cnn's security correspondent, josh campbell, josh you yourself were with the fbi for several years. can you help us understand where the investigative process now goes from here? >> yeah. so it starts with fully identifying this individual and if that person had some type of driver's license or identification on them that obviously would make that much easier for investigators. the vehicle itself with out-of-state plates. we don't know if that vehicle belong to the individual. it could have been a rental car if that is the case, authorities he's in short order would be able to find out who was the individual who actually rented the vehicle, looking at registration records and the like, but that is key first to figure for forgot who this individual is, and then authorities will be working to determine what the actual motive was. now, if this person, obviously now in custody during the course of a custodial interview, if they utter something or provide some type of information to investigators about the motive that obviously would certainly be helpful. but this is a

now officials are attempting to figure out a motive cnn security correspondent josh campbell has joining us right now. josh, what do we know? first of all, about the incident and the suspect will if it was just after noon when this orange colored buick suv slammed into that barrier at the fbi's atlanta field office. now, a senior fbi official says that the driver was attempting to follow an employee who had entered and you can see just from that video, the security barrier stopping that vehicle. this is the so-called final denial barrier as part of this layer of security that are around fbi field offices and other government offices. again, thankfully, preventing this individual from making his way closer to that building. now, the suspect then got out, he was taken into custody by law enforcement, were told that he was now at a hospital for evaluation. interestingly, wolf, as he was being taken into custody, law enforcement source tells cnn he didn't say anything, you didn't utter anything. and so at this our authority he's trying to determine what the motive was of this individual very

campuses, some now questioning the tactics used by law enforcement in the face of all of this, cnn's josh campbell has much more on this. he's joining us. >> josh. what is the criticism that's coming at the police right now on this? >> yeah. capable law enforcement has certainly been thrust into the middle of this, particularly because so many of these protests are taking place on private property. there's no first amendment right to protest on private property. and so when these universities say, hey, we want these people out of here, it's the police who have to do that. it's the tactics, however, that we've seen in some circumstances instead of certainly drawn a lot of criticism, including one incident last week at emory university involving a college professor. take a look you look at that video at the start of that, what you see is this professor coming up towards a group of officers who were attempting to put someone in custody. >> now, at that point, i think anyone who served in law enforcement will understand that for that officer to try to get her away from that situation, that would be ju
