joyce. last night we were getting ready for our news and reporter dave kinchen saw a guy walk up and do this>> reporter: thankfully our station grabbed our cameras and reached out to police. we saw the barricades the yellow police tape and police presence to keep people away. the statue wrapped up in a towel to cover this. last night our cameras were rolling at about 10:50 when a man got out of a toyota camera station wagon and wrote "black power" he then left a message on the steps as well suggesting the black community should take control of police operations as we rolled on the video someone from our station called police and officers responded immediately. as the news spread, people started showing up here upset, including a woman who brought a towel to cover the graffiti until it could be cleaned up. this woman has ties to the rizzo family. she says she witnessed a lot of good under his watch and she says this should not define the people of philadelphia. >> it doesn't matter, race, black, white, whatever race you are, it doesn't matter. we all have to pull together and make our nation
