again, shelby county, republican suburbs of birmingham, judge moore is winning there. i want to show you something from the 2016 presidential election. just look at the number. the suburban republicans, the margin the president was getting, roy moore is not getting tonight. >> take a look at the lead doug jones has. it's a 10,000 vote lead that all of a sudden the democratic doug jones has over the republican roy moore. and he's got 49.7% to 48.7%, a very significant development at this late stage. 89% of the vote in, that means 11% still outstanding. but a lot of those counties still outstanding are blue counties. >> we just looked up here earlier at madison county now up to 90% reporting, and doug jones keeping that healthy lead. up to 73%. we were at 66% just a few minutes ago here in jefferson county. and again keeping a healthy margin there more than 74,000 votes, keeping that. as more votes are coming in these key blue counties, he's maintained or not shrinking his lead. finally up to 57% here. a healthy lead for doug jones where you can do the math. almost 10,000

people in alabama understand where judge moore has been. an african-american voter and you look at what he said after the 10th amendment and you look at the fact that slavery was abolished after that, that the 14th amendment contains the equal protection clause, i think you have to ask yourself, is this a person who's going to stand up for my rights, which is why you have african-americans like cory booker, former president obama on a robo call, john lewis campaigning against him, because what they're trying to do is bring out african-american voters, because that's one of the only ways that they know that they can potentially defeat judge moore. >> and about a third of the population, a third of the potential voters are african-american. >> african-american. >> if he does win, david chalian, mitch mcconnell, the republican leader in the senate, he faces already a very slim margin. but what -- would roy moore be a loyal republican for mitch mcconnell? >> i think he would be a reliable republican vote more often than not, but think about it

is that when it got to the point of backing judge moore? judge moore, who had numerous allegations lodged against him from women who said that he dated them when they were teenagers or that they sexually assaulted them. donald trump chose to break from his republican establishment from the republican congressional leaders and endorse judge moore. i think that is very, very hurtful now for republicans heading into 2018. i can tell you this, jim. the only thing that happened that was good for republicans in the last 24 hours is that judge moore lost. you imagine what, how they would be able to deal with an election in 2018 having him as somebody that the president endorsed and he won. >> no question. or being photographed with him in the senate chambers. april, when you look at trump's track record with who he's backed, just in the last couple of months, look at the list. he backed ed gillespie in virginia. that didn't work out so well. he backed luther strange first in the primary in alabama then roy moore lost on both accounts. ed gillespie

moore lost the senate election there. doug jones won and he did it by more than 21,000 votes. a judge threw out a last-minute attempt by moore to block the proceedings. and there are some late news as well. a new statement from the moore team, this on top of a claim from moore that he took and passed a polygraph test on the allegations against him. in all of this, though, the one thing he still hasn't done more than two weeks since election night is concede. joining us now from montgomery, alabama, cnn's diane gallagher. first off, diane, what's in the new statement from the moore team? >> i can tell you what's not in there, john. and that's an official concession. i want to give you just a little bit of a synopsis of what's in there a little bit here. he says, election fraud experts across the country have agreed that this was a fraudulent election. he then says, i have stood for the truth about god and the constitution for the people of alabama. i have no regrets. to god be the glory. >> a little bit of a clarification there, in his statement, by election experts across the country,

to ensure that conservative judges are appointed to the united states supreme court. moore will acknowledge that he believes the supreme law of the land isn't the constitution not with judges. as we've seen over the course of this campaign, moore's anti-abortion stance so important to so many conservative and christian voters. moore's base in this state that he's looking to activate tonight. moore not the only voice we will hear tonight, we will hear from former white house chief strategist steve bannon. bannon's message will be his own. >> we'll check back in with you. alex, obviously the doors are just opening, people are going to be coming in there over the next hour, as the rally gets ready to begin. how confident are jones supporters in his campaign right now, do they think they can pull this out against what so many have predicted? >> the supporters in the campaign themselves really do have a bit of a pep in their step. spending the weekend barnstorming across the state. this was already going to be a very competitive race. and then these allegations against roy moore

judge moore still not in the house yet at the rsa activity center in downtown montgomery. do expect to see him tonight. we also expect to see his big backer steve bannon. if moore is able to keep this seat red, we expect to hear bannon and others give a lot of credit to president trump. however, if he loses, we expect to hear a ton of blame directed at the senate mitch mcconnell hot campaign and biggest surrogates have tried to vilify from the very beginning. now, we do understand that mcconnell, in the event of a moore victory, plans to huddle with republican senators tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. at the u.s. capital to try to figure out what kind of a welcome they would give a senator roy moore the establishment in alabama has been a lot friendlier. driving from birmingham down here to montgomery earlier today a couple hours ago we heard the trump robo call much discussed this weekend in favor of moore playing as a radio ad paid for by the alabama g.o.p. now, tonight's event here in montgomery does have a very noticeable security presence inside and out. an official tells me th
