the secret service director, julia pearson, is taking full responsibility for those lapses at the white house. today she explained a series of mistakes made by secret service personnel, including an incident earlier this month when omar gonzalez reportedly got past several agents into the white house before being captured. >> i do want our officers and agents to execute appropriate force for anyone trying to breech the white house. >> lawmakers discovered the secret service took several days to realize that someone shot at the white house residence and hit it at least seven times back in 2011. a maid was the first person who noticed the bullet marks near the residence. the president's daughter was home at the time. >>> new permanent security measures are being secured. bruce johnson reports some of those changes are already visible. >> across from the white house in la fayette park. a visit of india's prime minister. >> in front of the white house, those same americans questioned how omar gonzalez could scale the fence, bypass armed secret service agents outside, over power another one

this is going to be a tough day for julia pearson. she's a 31-year veteran of the secret service. came from the orlando police department but has been the head of the agency for just 18 months. she was brought in after that prostitution scandal to really work on the image to change the culture. now i should say there was a homeland security inspector general's report that found there was no problem with the culture. these latest incidents, though, raise much more serious problems than that. more than the culture. it's about their ability to protect the president. when you have in one case a man come over the fence and having to be stopped by dogs and guns drawn officers. somebody that gets back to the east room and we hear that an alarm that is supposed to let people know, let the agents know when someone has breached the front door was turned off because it was annoyance to some members of the white house staff when you hear that the dogs who were at the ready were not released. a lot of serious questions going to be asked. i think it's important to point out these are bipartisan

that information, by the way, coming out after the director of the secret service julia pearson faced a grilling. a fence jumper and white house shooter in november of 2011. director pearson admitted to the house oversight committee that a white house intruder with a knife, follow the red dots with me, got all the way to the east room where the president has given multiple major public statements. pearson was also questioned about a story the "washington post" broke wide open this past sunday about that 2011 case. this man, oscar ortega hernandez shot multiple times at the white house. and it took multiple days for the secret service to realize bullets had hit the white house where sasha, the president's youngest daughter was home. >> is that true? did a housekeeper find evidence of the shooting and your agents did not? >> the housekeeper was able to locate fragments of glass on the truman balcony, not an area frequented by security -- >> i didn't ask you about who was frequent. i asked you -- there was a spontaneous conclusion that shots were fired? there were officers who believed t
