i want to bring in joan walsh, scott jennings and juliette kayyem.could join us here. let's talk about the finger pointing, the tone and the responsibility, joan. what did you think of the president's remarks tonight? >> first of all, i thought they shouldn't have happened, don. i don't think there should have been a campaign speech on a night that two of our presidents, our former secretary of state, congresswoman, et cetera, were threatened this way. it's not a night for political campaigning. i just want to step back and say, we lower the bar for this president all time. we take for granted, of course, he's going to campaign. he should not have campaigned. his statement this afternoon as well as at his rally should have mentioned the victims, should have mentioned each and every one of them and expressed some sort of concern about them and their families and a promise to keep them safe. including us but you know, leave us aside. we're all americans. this is very scary. so those two things together, it's just like he has no idea how to respond and

i'm going to have you stand by for us as we bring in juliette kayyem. juliette, that's one of the concerns because in these cases, there were proper protocols in place to make sure, as jim was talking about, the concern is that it could be a self-actuated device and could be triggered before it was opened. in the case of a device dropped off at george soros' house, we don't know necessarily if there was some sort of protocol. perhaps there is. but there's a concern as we learn about more devices, i'm sure, that some of them could go to an area that doesn't necessarily have a protocol. >> right. i think that's exactly right. and to -- and in transit these devices are vulnerable. of course we're still learning more about how these devices are transited. there's some suspicion of were they dropped off or through the mail services, depending on which device you're talking about. so just taking a step back at this stage in the day, this is a concerted attack going on right now. i know each individual piece thank goodness has not gone off, but someone sophisti

also samantha vin o'grad, and juliette kayyem. good evening to all of you. it's just unbelievable the nuv explanations and the absurdity of especially this last one. all of them have been pretty absurd. david, originally they said he left the consulate alive. now they say he died in a fistfight. do they really expect people to believe this? >> they want one person to believe that. it's donald trump. and so far the white house is indicating this is what they've wanted to hear. they are going to i think accept this explanation and try to change the subject. the question is, will republicans in congress do the same thing? lindsey graham is already out questioning this. that's a bad sign for the white house. >> juliette, what kind of fistfight involves a bone saw and a forensics expert? >> one that's a figment of a prince's imagination i think. i mean, this is insulting our intelligence. and we're at the stage now where the united states is not complicit in a cover-up, we are the cover-up. this is what this is about, is to basically buy some time for the saudis.

juliette kayyem is here and walter schaub. there's always something., why do you think the president wanted to keep the fbi from moving and is about -- i'm wondering if this is about minimizing competition for the hotel as democrats say or something else? >> only in the trump administration could this be a relatively minor story. this is actually terrible and an example of his conflicts of interest leading to his concerns. his hotel is they say one block away. you can actually see the trump international hotel from the fbi building and vice versa. the concern expressed by a trump organization executive in 2015 is that if some hotel or other competing business were to move into that site, it could compete with the trump international hotel at the old post office pavilion. so far it has all the earmarks of him having intervened to try to protect his profits. >> walter, okay, i have to read this. this is a portion of the letter the democrats wrote to the gsa. it says many years before becoming president trump expressed interest in the fbi headquarters mov

let's bring in now senior white house correspondent pamela brown and national security analyst juliette kayyemnd sean turner. pamela, at least ten packages found so far. now authors believe several were processed at a mail facility near miami, florida. give us the latest on the manhunt tonight. >> that's right. part of this investigation is heavily focused on florida. this processing facility is believed to be where several of these suspicious packages with these pipe bombs they want through. so what investigators are trying to figure out right now, don, is whether the perpetrator or perpetrators plural lives in florida or whether this was just a facility where some of the packages moved through. that is a key question. right now, investigators are trying to figure out still who was behind this. the manhunt is intensifying and the concern, don, is there could be more packages out there. right now we know of ten. of course, there could be more. i will say that one law enforcement official law enforcement i spoke with today said some of the forensic analysis they've done has yieldeded important

my guest is juliette kayyem. welcome to the program. >> tell us, are these going to be the usual suspects? >> there are going to be fingerprints and you're doing a traditional type of investigation, trying to find the individual or individuals who would have done this. i should add there's also an entire sort of courier aspect to this, the postal and courier services that may have been involved. then you are also looking at whether there are people who have written letters to those who are receiving the bombs, who have said something publicly, who have been in social media, whose friends or neighbors may know something. so you're trying to sort of do outreach to the network of the community that might be a part of the assailant's world who may know something more. this is a big investigation, multiple states, multiple agencies aligned around what we call the joint terroriricerro j forces. >> it does seem incredibly organized. some say, well, it looks sort of amateurish because the actual pipe bombs were sort of r
