let's get right overtime's meteorologist justin drabick.e has been tracking the storms all evening he's got late he on what we can expect throughout the night. >> looks like we're tracking the last of the strong storms moving through new jersey right now in particular, in southern new jersey and still seeing a lot of lightning going on around southern camden and gloucester county and parts of northern atlantic county. let's zoom in closer. you can see some heavy rainfall coming through the southern sections of camden gloucester county near winslow township up towards waterford. this extends into mullica atlantic county so the atlantic city expressway under the gun for heavy rain, frequent lightning as well. indication of some small hail possible on radar right now in some spots. and these heavier showers and storms also extend down into cumberland county and it will eventually move into cape may county. what to expect through the late night hours? again some scattered strong storms mainly in south jersey. looks like the storms are moving ou

's tracking the storms for us from the cbs3 weather center. a lost activity there behind you justin. >> that's right, natasha. a lot of colors on storm scan3 indicating strong storms still to talk about, none severe at the moment and the actual severe thunderstorm watch has been discontinued. we are under the gun for the potential for some stronger storms especially in south jersey over the next few hours and across the areas of central new jersey. so, again, it's kind of doing splits across philadelphia. strong storms heavy rain just to the north and to the south. we'll take a couple of trips here into the trenton area. this is a weakening storm, still some lightning strikes with pockets of heavy rain. this continues to move to the east so look out parts of northern ocean and veg we'll monmouth county. heavy rain across northeast philadelphia will continue to move out into burlington county. stronger storm down south into central delaware. southern new castle county to kent county. sm

our justin drabick is live in atlantic city to talk more about the shore effects and shore will bear the brunt of the storm live from atlantic city, hi justin. >> reporter: good evening, kathy. in rain yet but in the best beach day here in atlantic city but wind is the the problem, how long out of the north east. you the can see roughed up, waves three to 4 feet and increasing through nighttime hours. off shore buoys 10 feet well off the new jersey coastline. the coastal flood advisory will go into effect tomorrow morning. we are talking about a potential for tidal flooding as this storm does a approach. beaches have been desserted all day to day and that is pretty much for good reason a lot of clouds today and windy conditions, and only a few people were able to venture out on the beach. surf is choppy. waves could reach five to 7 feet and certainly we will see high risk for rip currents. there is also a possibility of minor coastal flooding around times of high tides. while the heavy rain is a concern emergency management officials say resident also need to think about the gusty win

reporting from the cbs-3 studio i'm meteorologist justin drabick. >> good evening, everyone. still rush hour sprinkled in the usual spots, i-95, schuylkill, vine street expressway, eastbound heading to i-95, and, tacony palmyra bridge looks like it is being put back down after this ship passing through. heading in and out of new jersey in and out of philadelphia as we look the at our live speed sensors sensors low in the 20's. twenty on the schuylkill expressway look the at that eastbound delay around conshohocken curve. starts at 202 and then continues almost down toward gladwynn. if you are traveling blue route your average is 23, 24 on i-95, around construction zone as we have and in new jersey 295 southbound near mount holly we have an accident scene watch out for lane being compromised there and if you are traveling, northeast philadelphia far northeast, roosevelt, boulevard southbound near comly street we have an accident and that is causing a problem. we will leave you with eastbound 422 around 29 blocking one of the lanes there as well adding to already rush hour. sta

meteorologist justin drabick shows us this stellar sight. >> a few minutes before 11:00 p.m. sunday a erie flash of light crossed the sky as a meteor fell to earth and exploded. now another view this one from central pennsylvania. we paused the video to show you just how bright the sky became for a split second. american 250 reports flooded in. >> when somebody sees it, it is so stunning that they are sure that hundreds of other people have seen it, thousands, everybody must have seen it but if you are not looking in the right place at the right time, you will not see it because it is only two seconds. >> reporter: not unusual for people to see an event like this over a wide region. meteor was seen as far south as southern virginia and as far north as upstate new york all the way over to new hampshire and as far west as ohio. likely that the meteorology did explode over the mid-atlantic. >> something about this size, say the size about four or five footballs is really quite heavy this weighs over 400-pound and a object this size could really cause a lot of damage in a neighbo

meteorologist justin drabick takes a closer look at that, justin. >> reporter: thanks, kathy. we have rain showers coming our way but different story out west where we have wild weather going on. we will start off in southern california, this is riverside where flash flooding is going on, cause by tropical storm norburt, storm sent water in the streets closing three way lanes and completely submerging cars, nearly 3 inches fell in the an area, suffering from annex stream drought. further north in the yesemite national park it wasn't rain but it was smoke we are dealing w the thinks a wild fire, and, started yesterday and scorched more than 700 acres. one hundred hikers had to be evacuate by helicopter. no injuries reported. causes still under investigation. last stop is down to the desert and phoenix, arizona where we don't have rain there as well, it is a dust storm, this dust storm came in saturday night covering the entire metro area. wind reached 40 miles an hour, storms are also calls haboobs. they are created when cold air rushes out of the collapsing thunderstorm very q

meteorologist justin drabick is tracking these storms for us at this hour. live in the cbs3 weather center with the latest on where they're heading at this point. justin. >> good evening, natasha. looks like the impacted areas right now are in northern delaware and central new jersey. that's where we have the thunderstorm activity. little bit of light rain around philadelphia up to northeast philadelphia, through trenton but severe storm moving into ocean county as we speak. right now a lot of lightning with that storm as well as lightning heading into the wilmington area. we'll zoom in closer to some of these storms. again, this one is severe. located right around the manchester area right now headed for pine land park at 6:28 toms river, 6:40. seaside heights 6:57 as that storm moves to the east at 20 miles per hour. lot of lightning and heavy rain and winds gusting up to 60 miles per hour. heavy rain from wilmington down into chesapeake city, maryland and this is also moving to the east. a lot of rainfall right now around bear, delaware, newark and glasgow

meteorologist justin drabick tells us more about the autumnal equinox. >> thanks, kate. fall wet's arriving just in time for official start of the fall season. it arrives tonight at 10:29. it is called autumnal equinox. equinox is latin for equal. here's is what happening at the point of equinox. we have the the sun passing directly over the equator. that is where all of the sun's energy is in about 12 hours of daylight and darkness. here in philadelphia we have 12 hours and nine minutes of daylight today. new lets talk about the temperatures. the sun will be moving southward toward tropic of cap corn so temperatures will be dropping over next few weeks. average high is 76 degrees. october 1st, 72. november 1st our average high 61. end of november, we're averaging 50 degrees, for our afternoon temperatures. now what to expect for this fall? well, there are some changes. we have a developing el nino in the pacific ocean which means warmer than average water temperatures. that gives us warmer temperatures. official forecast ace above average numbers, for the fall season. i

meteorologist justin drabick shows us why it has been less than active this year. >> thanks, kathy. >ave seen most activity in our tropical season but so far as expect we have not seen a whole lot this year. this is a shot of the first named storm of the season, that was hurricane arthur but today marks peak of the hurricane season september 10th and we will be on that downhill trend but watch what happens in later october we will see another little spike in activity. obviously we are in the out of the woods just yet but so far part of the reason for inactive season is an increasing el nino which is warmer than average ocean water in the eastern pacific ocean. we have had four named storms in the atlantic, three of those were hurricanes, up to today we averaged six named storms. we are below that. but right on target with three hurricanes for the average. but usually when we see, less activity atlantic city, pacific is very active and that has been the case, 16 named storms so far, ten of those hurricanes. what is happening right now outside in the atlantic, not a whole lot. two syste

meteorologist justin drabick joins us now with his first forecast. stin. >> good evening, natasha. that's right, big change in our air mass. you can really feel the difference when you stepped outside this morning. that cold front came through. back to september conditions. 71 at the airport in philadelphia, mount pocono already in the up are 50's. that humidity is gone. yes you can open up the windows again, cut off that ac save a couple bucks on the electric bill. we're enjoying mid 60's in doylestown and pottstown. quakertown already at 59 degrees. compare these numbers to this time yesterday. we're about two to 13 degrees cooler so that's a sign of that cooler and drier air mass building on in. you could see some clouds and shower activity well to the south but we're protected by an area of high pressure right over the great lakes. what that does is keeps us dry for monday but also a clockwise flow around the high gives us an east to northeast wind flow so that also keeps our temperatures below average over the next few days. certain feel like fal
