kay hagan, the incumbent democrat you see here.n the most recent poll leading by four points the republican challenger tom tillis. we always like to look at the average of all polls because sometimes an individual poll can be a little funky. there's margin of error. there can be some noise in the polling. when you look at the average of all polls in north carolina, what you see, very close race. less than two points. on average when they poll this race, kay hagan leading tillis by less than two points. this is one of those races that republicans think they can catch the democrat at the wire. they think -- they keep talk about the idea of there being a wave in the year 2014. this is one of those states if there is going to be a republican wave, where tillis could wash over kay hag be at the very end, would be a big pickup for republicans. so how do democrats defend against that? what are they counting on to win north carolina? what you're seeing here is this is the map of north carolina. the county map, red, republican, blue, democr

kay hagan clearly does not want president obama campaigning for her. the republican interest to try to make him front and center the issue there. >> this is what's been so fascinating about this race. over and over again, i think repeated it over half dozen times mentioned that kay hagan voted 96% of the time with president obama. he was just constantly trying to make this a race about president obama. but what's been fascinated about north carolina compared to other senate races is how much the state legislature and the state government has been an issue in the campaign. which tom tillis has provided over as speaker of the house. every single time tried to shift the topic to obama, kay hagan would try to pull it back to what's going on in north carolina where the republican controlled state government has been pretty unpopular over the last year as it's kind of swerved abruptly to the right. >> and kay hagan also tried to bring up isis as an issue. let's play this. >> it has to be a unified front. and i think when i see, what speaker tillis has done.
