kari. looks good for today, but we're going to start to see that rain continuing to move farther south as we go into tomorrow. let's talk about how much we measured yesterday in the north bay. over 6.5in of rainfall fell in calistoga. mount tam had nearly five inches of rainfall, while san francisco had a little more than three quarters of an inch of rainfall and 4/10 of an inch of rain in oakland. but that sharp cut off of where we are seeing the rain and where we're not is moving across the east bay. you can see the danville had only a few sprinkles and none measured in san jose. and then some of our highest rainfall totals. really hard to believe. but bonauto had close to 11in of rainfall just yesterday. angwin had over 7.5in of rainfall at the sonoma county airport. seven inches san anselmo had over five inches and three inches in novato, and then we're still seeing that rain coming down in san rafael. as you're heading out this morning, we are going to see the north bay. the focus of a

meteorologist kari hall has a look at that. we're seeing a wide range in our microclimates and the kind of weather that we're experiencing right now. we are seeing temperatures a little bit milder to start in the low 60s. walnut creek, now at 62 degrees 61 and raining in san francisco. but this very powerful storm continues to bring all of this heavy rain across the region. and eventually it's going to start to push farther to the south as some cold air swings down and kind of kicks it into gear, and we'll see much more of the bay area experiencing the wet weather that the north bay is seeing for now, a couple of days, and it's still coming down as our storm ranger tracks all of the pockets of heavier rain now moving through marin county, southern sonoma county, and up toward northern napa county into solano county. so we are seeing some of the lighter showers in san francisco over toward parts of the east bay and down the peninsula. but once again, the trend for today will be for parts of the tri-valley as well as the south ba

meteorologist kari hall has a look at that. kari.a morning early afternoon event clearing out by this evening, but it is a sloppy morning commute as we take a live look outside in oakland. and as you're heading out, you do need the windshield wipers. it hasn't yet made it to san jose, but we will see the showers arriving by about 9:00. here and it will be early with some of the rain and cool temperatures, but we're also watching some sierra snow that will make it down to about 6000ft. and then rain chances continue for midweek into the weekend. here's a look at some of the heavier rain that we can see with this storm system arriving. it's a cold front that will bring us a drop in temperatures overnight, but we're seeing a lot of the rain in parts of the east bay from 680 over toward 880, and it will be raining for a few more hours here. and getting even heavier. we're also seeing that rain near the coast and in the santa cruz mountains. watching all of this wet weather arriving and continuing to bring us about a quarter to half inch

kari. thank you. well, the latest storm, of course, comes as much of the bay area still recovering from that rain that moved out of here over the weekend. today in the bay's ginger conejero saab live on the peninsula where flooding concerns are still certainly front and center. ginger. it's hard for flooding not to be on the minds of people on the peninsula and the south bay. as the rain starts to come down. and as kari mentioned, we did get a break over the weekend, but that might not be enough for people to fully recover. people here in palo alto starting to see the rain. we're close to downtown. it's not necessarily pouring just yet, but we are definitely starting to see that wet weather people potentially bracing themselves for the amount of rainfall that we saw in the north bay last week, the russian river surged over the weekend just below moderate flood stage. also over the weekend, authorities confirm a fatality in sonoma county, close to highway 116 and maze canyon road. a car was spotted in

thanks so much, kari.bay, where some neighborhoods have seen more than a foot of rain over the past two days. and as kari was saying, there's more in store today in the bay's ginger conejero saab is live for us in santa rosa. and ginger, i know the city now under a flood advisory. that's right. good morning, marcus and laura, the city of santa rosa. still getting some of that rain. as kari just mentioned, it's really still coming down in the north bay here. it does have a flash flood advisory that is in effect until 4:00. this afternoon. santa rosa, easily surpassing the forecast, getting ten in some cases, even 11in of rain in the past two days. there's also a flood advisory in the north bay that will stay in effect until 315 tomorrow morning. now, i want to show you an area here in santa rosa that was flooded yesterday, because flooding remains a concern for drivers here in the city. police are saying avoid unnecessary travel and follow road closures. now this is a parking lot at hampton inn and suites a

thanks so much, kari.right now, a new state law officially takes effect in january to try to boost pedestrian safety. but happening today, san francisco is taking its first step to enact it. today, in the bay's ginger conejero saab joins us live in the city this morning and ginger is drivers will have to pay extra close attention, or eventually they could pay the price right? that's right laura. unfortunately, the penalties won't be enforced today, but those warnings will be issued. they are scheduled to be issued and this can get really tricky. i want to show you a couple scenarios that we've already seen. this morning. here's an empty parking space just right behind us. this is clearly not within the 20ft that is required by those daylight parking rules. across the street. there's also a car that looks to be parked within the 20ft limit of the daylight parking rule. i assume that is a car that may belong to the people who live in that house. the driveway of that home is also within that 20ft, and across

kari. good morning. we've been talking a lot about the windy conditions that will be picking up as we go through the next couple of days, and for some of our hills, our mountains, those gusts may top 50mph. so some of those stronger wind gusts coming in tomorrow night through wednesday. but we're going to see day after day of these high winds that could create some issues for power. as well as trees. and we may have an elevated fire danger as well. so as we're getting started this morning in walnut creek, at least for now, the wind is still calm. it's 46 degrees. and as we go throughout the day, we're going to see those temperatures in the mid 60s at 10:00 and into the low 70s at noon, eventually making it into the mid seconds for today. notice these temperatures are pretty nice across the bay area, with some low to mid 70s and a few upper 70s in parts of the north bay. we'll be tracking those changes. we'll talk more about the wind and the impacts to the power that may be coming up in just a few minutes

we'll meet raj kari hall kari hall is taking care of all that for us. yes. show you the forecast for travel delays, some of the flight delays that we're seeing across the country, as well as what we're seeing here all across the state. you can see that long line of showers extending from arizona all the way up to the midwest. and as we check in with those delays, we are starting to see some delays for the newark airport that are averaging about an hour and a half. and then we have 30 minute delays now popping up around phoenix. but as we get a closer look at some of our local airports, it looks like now everything is on time. as we're now getting some clear weather. but looking as you're packing your bags, maybe you're heading elsewhere. we are seeing the blast of cold air coming in from canada and dropping those temperatures for parts of the upper plains states into the midwest. and then tomorrow that cold air expands even more. so we're going to see those areas farther to the north, like minneapolis staying below freezing. and then that cold air also pushi

i want to check in with meteorologist kari hall.w, we're in this high fire danger zone right now. yeah, and it does continue a little bit later in the day for southern california, as we're still getting those high wind gusts there. as we take a closer look at the hour by hour wind gusts forecast in that area of that fire, we're still looking at some of the mountain wind gusts at 30 to 40mph into the next few hours, but this afternoon it is expected to calm down, which will be great news for trying to help contain the fire. but we're all very critically dry and looking at this time of year when the vegetation is as dry as it can get, we're still going to have a breezy wind to start out this morning in san jose. we're in the low 50s and then headed for the low 70s. overall, though, it will be a very pleasant afternoon with sunshine and most of our temperatures reaching into the 70s for today and the next few days, we'll talk about when the rain finally comes back in a few minutes and mike, you're seeing an early backup for the bay bri

kari say it's already here in some parts. yeah, it's a light rain that we're seeing near the coast and in parts of the north bay. but the rest of the bay area is so far dry as you're heading out the door, we are taking a look at what to expect with some scattered showers from today through friday, but the best rain chances today will be in the north bay, and it may be a little breezy at times. we've been tracking the high surf near the coast and 12 to 15 foot waves, even though within the next 30 minutes we are going to see that high surf advisory expiring, it still may be very dangerous there along the coastline in the sierra, there will be snow above 7000ft. as this storm system approaches, and it will be coming in later today. with those rain chances increasing and temperatures staying down. so we're only up to 55 for a high today in clear lake. while in san jose we'll see a high of 66 degrees. we'll go hour by hour with that forecast and talk more about the return of king tides that's coming up in the next microclimate fo

that's right kari. of those waves crash into the wall kind of under us. and actually, some of them even break over at the coast guard says and warns people who are swimmers or surfers to just stay out of the water. your body can go into something called cold shock once it hits really cold temperatures, making really quick responses difficult for the body. i want to show you some of those waves. now that you're able to see them with the light of day, the high surf advisory is now in effect until 6:00 tomorrow morning. we are at the pacifica pier this morning, so that surf advisory covers this area as well as the north bay. point reyes national seashore, northern monterey bay, big sur, san francisco county, and san francisco peninsula. now the national weather service says they can go as high as 12 to 15ft. and they call these moderate waves. but the weather service says these conditions could make swimming and surfing dangerous. so kari, as you said, they're saying stay out of the water, never surf alone

thanks so much, kari. well, in just a few hours, we will hear from the new mayor elect of san francisco, daniel lurie. today in the bay's ginger conejero saab joins us live in san francisco this morning. so ginger lurie is a political outsider, but there's still a lot that he is hoping to accomplish here. that's right. laura and he recognizes that it won't happen overnight. you know, we were there when daniel lurie first announced that he was running for mayor. that was over a year ago. and this morning he is stepping into his new role as mayor elect of the city. mayor london breed is stepping out graciously, being mayor of the city has been the absolute honor of my life. mayor breed conceded in the race for mayor yesterday after serving six years in office, making her mark as the city's first black woman mayor. she said she called lurie to congratulate him. the latest numbers were released yesterday afternoon. lurie staying consistent with 56% of the vote. the incumbent mayor with almost 44% of the vote.

kari. the white house is suggesting medicare and medicaid make weight loss drugs available to overweight americans that are enrolled in those programs. and scott, medicare and medicaid already make ozempic and other similar drugs available to diabetics. yes. exactly right. good morning to you. this new rule would expand eligibility to those patients who are simply overweight. it's affecting their health. the idea being while ozempic wegovy and the like are very expensive, so too is treating heart disease and diabetes and other problems associated with weight. 40% of americans are considered obese. estimates put the cost of the drugs at around $3 billion a year, but again, there is a balance between that and the prevention of other illnesses and disease. now, the change requires a 60 day waiting period for public comment. and there are 54 days until trump takes office, meaning it will be president trump who decides whether the idea continues to move forward. meantime, we're keeping an eye, a

meteorologist kari hall is here tracking the gusts. kari. yeah. audrey. still gusting as we take a look at a lot of our hills and mountains in the north bay. this is where we've had those highest gusts, and it's still at 65mph. and mount saint helena. and we're seeing that about 40 to 50mph in the east bay at mount diablo. so right now we're feeling some breezy winds across the bay area. the humidity is dropping now that our temperatures are in the 60s and low 70s, we're headed for 71. in dublin today and 73 in hayward, 75 in santa rosa. we're looking at more of the same temperatures tomorrow, but it won't be as windy. we'll gradually start to see the winds easing up as we go into tonight and early tomorrow. things are looking much better. that's when the red flag warning will be allowed to expire. and looking ahead, we'll see. cooler temperatures and possibly some rain next week. audrey. all right. looks good. kari. thank you so much. we will be back in 30 minutes with much more news. until then, have a wonderful afternoon and make sure you visit our web

kari, how's it looking? yeah, we've been talking about the best times to travel and get out on the roads, and i think now's a good time. looking at the conditions out there and we don't have any more rain lingering. but it's cold as our temperatures have dipped in some spots into the 30s. that's what we're seeing in the north bay. but elsewhere it is in the 40s and low 50s. chilly start, and it's going to be a very cool day. at least it will be sunny and that helps it feel a little bit better. but as we go through the afternoon in san francisco, we're staying in the 50s for this afternoon and upper 50s and low 60s elsewhere. one of the warmer spots will be the south county, with morgan hill, gilroy and in san martin, temperatures in the low 60s. tomorrow it's not much different. after a very cool morning. we're staying in the 50s and low 60s as well, and then into friday. there is still that cool weather that will be settling in and slight warming for some of the inland valleys that we'll be watching heading

kari. they definitely are.w a bit of some downpour here at the service center in san rafael. people really bracing themselves for today in the next several days. but pg&e so far is saying that they are seeing light outage activity. as of 45 minutes ago, about a thousand customers in the greater bay area who are without power, 10,000 within the entire system. so they do consider that the system is holding up well at this point. but pg&e is anticipating for the next several days any more extensive outage. so they do have their crews ready to be deployed. they do remind the public, as well to keep their devices charged. stay up to date on the outage map and call pge 5000 if there is an outage in your area. they say they are prepared, but the people in the north bay are bracing themselves, including eric bettencourt of fairfax, whose home has been damaged by storms three times in the last 12 years. the most recent in february of this year when water from an atmospheric river storm gushed onto his property, creating
