let's turn to meteorologist kari hall. hi, kari. >> hi. we can see what the red outlines of exactly where the wildfires are burning. of course, some of the major fires in the bay area would be the carr fire, further to the north and the mendocino complex bringing smoke into the bay area. with a light wind, we are seeing this being pushed into the bay area and settling in our valleys. and that's the reason why we do have this view right now of very low visibility and that hazy sunshine. over the south bay, in santa clara valley, we have unhealthy air quality and inland east bay where we're also dealing with some high levels of some ozone. for the north bay, the bay and the coast, and the south bay, we're also seeing some moderate air quality and not only that but there's still a high fire danger today, a high fire weather watch issued for the areas dealing with extremely dry conditions and hot temperatures over the next few days and we'll continue to monitor that. what else is in the forecast? temperatures go up a few more degrees coming up

meteorologist kari hall has been focusing on what we can expect weather wise this week, and kari, it really has been a pleasant one. >> it has been a pleasant week for the bay area. we're also keeping an eye on what's happening with hurricane lane as we get a look at the system. it's a very large category-4 hurricane as it nears hawaii. and we're seeing those outer rain bands now bringing some heavy potentially flooding rain to parts of hawaii. now this will weaken over the next couple days as it get closer to oahu, as a category-1 hurricane later on this evening and early tomorrow morning and further weakening is expected as it continues to move away. here's what we know and what we're expecting over the next couple days. rain mostly at about 5 to 15 inches. isolated amounts of rain up to 20 inches of rain, which will cause some flash flooding and some mudslides. wind speeds peaking at 73 miles per hour with very dangerous surf and the eye staying just south of the hawaiian islands. as we look back at the history, we have only seen two hurricanes since we have been taking records an

kari hall is watching it for us. what is the time line here? >> we are expecting outer rain bands to already start to make it into much of the hawaiian islands. and we are going to see this making a bigger impact as we head into tonight with some higher winds and big waves for tonight into tomorrow. so we are already starting to see the effects of that right now. this is a category 4 hurricane, maintaining its strength with wind speeds at 130 miles an hour. this is moving to the northwest at about 7 miles an hour. and it will be making a curve toward the west over the next couple of days. but look at how close it will be my oahu. and this will be a tropical storm as it moves in. so we still have some shifts as far as the intensity and the track of in storm. and that may continue as this continues to move closer to hawaii over tnext couple days. here is a look at the impact, anywhere from 5 to 15 inches of rain, there may be isolated higher amounts causing flash flooding. and winds could top 73 miles an hour with some of those higher gusts. high

meteorologist kari hall tracking it all for us. >> it is something we can all see around the bay area. the hazy skies and the very poor air quality. can't see that far ahead of you. as we look live right now in san jose. we look over toward the hills and they're basically nonexistent right now. looking at oakland you can still see the hazy conditions and we are going to see this continuing throughout the day. here's the air quality map from last night. anywhere from san francisco to oakland and to the south in red which means very unhealthy for all people. not just people with breathing problems and then seeing the air quality improving a bit. but still, pretty bad for the south bay, much of santa clara valley getting the worst of that and east of livermore. into the rest of the day we should see minor improvement. yellow map means moderate air quality but still if you smell the smoke and if it really does bother you, you should limit your time outside or wear a mask. also, expected to catch public transit and try to cut down on ozone emissions. our temperatures have been cooler and h

we want to turn to meteorologist kari hall. you have been closely following all of these conditions for us. what can we expect from this today? >> it's still going to be smoky today. we have unhealthy air quality for the bay yare u especially the inland parts of the east bay and spots like dublin as well as santa clara valley. when it is unhealthy out there, you do want to make sure you're wearing a mask, if you have breathing problems, limit your time outside. turn your air conditioning on, recirculate, and if you can, you can reduce the amount of carbon emissions and ozone levels by carpooling or catching public transit. we still have very unbearable, unbelievable, i should say, wildfire conditions. we have a red flag warning in effect near the carr fire area. that means that we'll have low humidity, high wind gusts and the winds pick up today and continue through saturday. we could see those wildfires spreading, going in different directions. or we could see new ones developing. i'll continue to watch those conditions and ou

meteorologist kari hall is tracking the winds, as well as the heat. >> yeah. we do have still some intense heat in northern california. we're heading up to 104 degrees today near the carr fire. that is just to the west of redding. you can see here as we look at the satellite imagery, you can see the smoke settling in some of those areas. air quality continues to be very poor. as we head down to the mendocino complex, you also see the grey that kind of shifts just a bit but really not moving that much so we are able to see very little in some of those areas. this is a look neat the north b, moderate air quality. elsewhere we will still have good air quality as the wind pushes it away from the south bay, as well as the bay and the coast. high temperatures coming down just a bit but still hot in some of our valleys, especially farther to the north. ukiah reaching 96 degrees today. san jose 84. 77 in splpalo alto. still foggy in san francisco. we'll get more clearing throughout the day. your weekend forecast is coming up in a few minutes. >>> earlier we showed you
