tipt to start with you, kasie. trail today, doing an event, doing an avail. what are your takeaways from the first days back out there? >> reporter: john, i think first and foremost, her team is trying to use humor to handle this event. brian fallon, for example sent me a statement last night about trump talking about her lying in bed, by saying, donald seems cranky, maybe he needs a happy meal. and of course, her staff had her come out to "i feel good" by james brown today. so, i think, you know, that's how they're trying to kind of make light of what's gone on in the past three days. and to a certain extent, how else are you going to handle it. but clinton herself seemed to use this as a what i to talk about the campaign in a broader sense. she talked about how she spent three days at home, and how this has made her more reflective, the speech he gave in north carolina, kind of a little more thoughtful in some ways, a little more personal. and they clearly want to make sure they're sending the image that she's st

nbc's kasie hunt is on the ground in philadelphia. it's 84 degrees. we mentioned the president talking about one person fainting but this was a barn-burner, that aside? >> reporter: that it was, thomas. it's a beautiful day in philadelphia. the president did say to a person in the crowd who fainted, bend your knees, be a little careful. i have to tell you, just a very striking condemnation of donald trump from the president of the united states today. just unfettered, saying that he is not qualified in any way to be commander in chief or president, in general, on a whole host of additional issues beyond just that. he talked about that interview with russian state tv that donald trump did, citing it as an example of that. repeatedly talked about how donald trump has turned this into something of a reality show. said he has made multiple statements that disqualify him. you can just really tell, this is the most aggressive we have seen the president be in pushing back against someone who, of course, raised questions about obama's legitimacy as president

kasie hunt is in new york and we know, kasie hunt, have your sources inside the campaign indicated as promise when they'll release more detail medical information on her? >> reporter: we are expecting such a release could come earlier today. hillary clinton is expected to be back out on the campaign trail tomorrow in greensboro in north carolina. so the campaign has been pretty careful after that scare on sunday to say that they want to make sure that she's in good enough health before they put her back out on the campaign trail. so we'll see if they make good on their pledge to put those records out in the next couple of days. they have said there is not going to be necessarily anything new in there. we, of course, do know something about her medical history over the course of the past couple of decades and she had a couple of blood clots and she fell and had that concussion when she was secretary of state. we won't be learning too much new. we'll see once that information comes out. >> kasie, with the option of not resuming the campaign strej tomorr schedule, tomorr tomorrow, is t i

kasie: there are a few pieces of evidence that i think points to this. of all the press conferences. we talked about her unwillingness to talk to the reporters that covered her most of this campaign. that has changed dramatically in the last week. all three times she's traveled with her press corps on the new plane, she talked to reporters, taking questions. and of course yesterday she talked to matt lauer. it seems getting more personal and some of the interviews. she talked to humans of new york, you might have seen it. they interview normal new yorkers on the street. and they talked to hillary clinton. she told them a personal story about being harassed as a woman in a law school exam. that i said, hey -- the gey said, hey, you are taking my spot, on them to be sent to vietnam. she said she learned early on not to show her a lotion and that it made her seem -- her emotions and that it made her seem aloof. it's not just another swing back. in the swing we talked about how we would -- how she would potentially have trouble running against donald trump.

kasie hunt has more of that. she is covering the clinton campaign. what led up to clinton's statements about that, about regretting a portion of her comments? >> well, richard, this statement came after a series of tweets clarifying her remarks from spokesman, nick merrill. they came out almost after hillary clinton made those comments. they were quick to respond that way. it took her a little longer to put out this formal statement. you notice the emphasis on the word half. this is a statement she has made in the past. she has talked about some trump supporters are deplorable because they have these views. what was different about what she said last night was that she cast so many trump supporters with that broad brush. that has generated a lot of controversy and drawn comparisons to the one that mitt romney made when he talked about 47% of americans and also to president obama when he said that some americans cling to their guns and religion. this is in many ways at odds with what hillary clinton has been trying to do. she has been trying to open t

kasie hunt is there. what do we expect to hear from first lady michelle obama? will she address what's become the biggest story line of the day? >> well, for michelle obama this is very personal. she's talked about it in personal terms before. about how it affects her and her husband and their daughters who have, for the most part, group up in the white house and have been dealing with this swirling controversy essentially since president obama ran in 2008. i just want to take you back to a couple of months ago when we saw michelle obama on stage for hillary clinton talking about this very thing. >> i also told you about our daughters how they are the heart of our hearts, the center of our world. we urge them to ignore those who question their father's citizenship or faith. weics plain someone is cruel and acts like a bully. when they go low, we go high. there you have the way michelle obama approached this issue different from her husband who, of course, is the one sitting in the oval office. i will be interested to see if this is the way if she does choose to

kasie, what can we expect. well, let's start with president obama.t, steph. he'll be here outside of the art museum in philadelphia. it's a beautiful day here. we, of course, have spent a lot of time in this area over the course of this campaign. this city, if hillary clinton is going to win pennsylvania by a margin similar to what recent democrats have done in recent times, it's going to be in large part because of the voters right here in philadelphia. there's a lot of african-american voters here that are absolutely critical for democrats in this state. and then on the flip side, of course, you have the republicans out campaigning today in suburban pennsylvania, which often is an area where republicans need to do well. but president obama, he's going to be here speaking to what looks like a relatively large crowd. this is a big outdoor event they have set up for him. he of course has yet to comment on hillary clinton's health issues of the past couple days, but remember, when they first appeared together on the campaign trail in charlotte, just ho

kasie hunt is there in philly. kas kasie, what can we expect? >> reporter: this is the first on behalf of hillary clinton for president obama. we got a taste of what it was like to remember president obama on the campaign trail when he first appeared with her in charlotte. pretty good reviews and to a certain extent, it was hard for people not to compare his natural campaign skills to hillary clinton's which she has been out there saying, are not quite as natural, but president obama also comes to this with an approval rating that's above 50%. he's currently at 54% approval rating with the american public which hasn't always been the case, of course, for a sitting president. president bush at the end of his second term had a 30% approval rating and of course, you remember that led to president obama's overwhelming victory in the general election in 2008. so regardless of what obama says here today, we are outside the philadelphia art museum, it's a beautiful day in philadelphia. he comes to the table with some built-in popularity. and of course,
