john kasich: my goal may be different. mark: what number is adequate? john kasich: come on. know a lot about form policy. i spent 18 years studying policy. the most important thing that a leader does, that a commander in chief does is to rally the forces so we can be effective. that is what needs to be done. mark: what would be the best tax system for the united states if you could impose one? john kasich: i want to focus on the corporate side. we worry about worker wages. we need to make sure companies invest in plant equivalent and the tolls workers need to be productive so wages could go up. on the personal side of things. i'm not certain where i'm going to come out on that. what i do believe is the corporate profits from europe need to be brought home. that system needs to be changed. we are not getting people a reason to invest in europe rather than america. workers need to be competitive so wages will rise. mark: senator rubio says let's have new provisions to help parents and working people the tax code moorcock located but -- make the tax code more complicated but ad

sort of in john kasich territory. if you look at his home state polls, the approval ratings in new jersey, the national polls look rosy by comparison. his polling by his own constituents is terrible and it keeps getting worse. the most recent poll, this is an all-time low for him in terms of disapproval in new jersey. they said they disliked everything about chris christie. they could choose him or his policies, but they chose to say they disliked everything about him. now, today on the eve of his presidential announcement, the largest newspaper in new jersey has published an editorial the likes of which i am not sure i have ever seen before. look at this. this from the star ledger, it's called after 14 years of watching chris christie, a warning. he lies. quote, most americans don't know chris christie like i do, so it's only natural to wonder what testimony i might offer after covering his every move for the last 14 years. is it his raw political talent? no, they can see that. his miserable failure to fix the econom

john kasich, scott walker, lindsey graham have given speeches. chris christie is speaking at this hour. mitt romney will deliver his remarks tonight. as of now, having seen what you have seen and heard what you have heard, who has won the day? mark: one of the things that has struck me is the quality of the speeches across the board. walker, rubio, and lindsey graham, they all had stump speeches that are not -- they are pretty well honed. from looking in the room, the reaction, marco rubio got the best reception and held people the best. weekends have -- we still have more. the undecided people impressed by different aspects of different potential candidates. john: i can't tell anything except reading the transcripts and the notes in hearing from you.

mark: i think john kasich did a little bit better.e gave a version of his speech to the romney donors at utah last week and it will flat with them. when he connects, his own faith, which has grown stronger as he got older -- when he connects that to his public policy, it not only diffuses attacks from the right, but makes him a passionate orator, which he sometimes is not. john: i cannot even make a choice between the two. i thought they both did well. neither is going to be the candidate of the christian right under any circumstance, but both are men of deep faith. you do not need to be the candidate of the christian right. you just need to be acceptable. i think either of these guys could be acceptable. mark: by dint of fund raising and polling, bush is going to be in the game, almost certainly. kasich testified his way in. today, one of his best so far. john: the polls are helping him. mark: hillary clinton talked about the shooting in carolina during an interview with john ralston. this was part of the democratic runt runner's res
