. >> msnbc kasie hunt was at the rally and joins us live from the capital. good day to you, you were there, you heard the cheering. some might asks, what was the mood and what does it say about the tea party and its health? >> richard, good evening. well, this was a raucous tea party crowd. we've seen them in front of the capital many times before, but donald trump did bring out some new faces, along with ted cruz and sarah palin. old and new faces in the tea party movement. you saw a couple things at work here today. the reality is, this issue is going to be with us through the rest of the campaign. it's something that trump has really highlighted with many people feeling angry, and unhappy with the state of the country where things are going and expressing that in the ways that his slogan frankly says, and this is an issue with iran that plays right into that. and the second piece of it is evangelical voters and the issue of israel. many jewish groups and christians who are concerned the deal undermines the security of israel, that's something that's impor

kasie, stay with me. i want to bring in amy holmes and sam stein. good to have you both. sam, let's begin with you. your take on what she just said, not just the fact that they're going to be so close to each other literally, just inches apart, but the fact that you have multiple candidates promising to be more aggressive tonight, what do you think that aggressiveness looks like? >> well, i guess it depends on the policy topic, to be honest with you. there are real policy differences that are sort of getting brushed aside among the more stylistic discussion here. but take, for example, the iran deal. i'm curious to see if anyone will jump on trump for saying that he wouldn't rip the deal up, that he'd police it. that is a fundamental policy difference between the rest of the field and donald trump. on taxes, donald trump and jeb bush actually are for raising rates on hedge fund managers. they are the two in the field that have a distinct policy difference. and i'm curious if another person on the stage will take that opportunity and go after him on that. i'm curious to se

kasie, talk to me about carson today.hey're fired up about a fund-raising number that they plan to report, we assume in the next day or so. >> chuck, as you know, the anticipation on his fund-raising number is so high that many of the other campaigns are hiding behind him saying, no way are we going to match what carson's going to put up this quarter, but we'll still be doing pretty well. i think they're feeling good about where they are. carson has spent a lot of his time fund-raising. he's not somebody we see on the campaign trail as much in the early states as we've seen some of the other candidates, even people like donald trump. i got to tell you, chuck, carson's contrast with trump is just impossible to ignore, how quiet he is, style wise, his approach compared with trump os bombast. he speaks very quietly, for a long period of time. he seems to take time to think through the questions. it's pretty remarkable they're both drawing significant support from what we both know to be a not dissimilar section of the republ

. >> kasie, did he have a following. where do the folks go now, die-hard fans of scott walker, who do they -- any sense who they might turn to now? >> i think that's definitely the question here, kate, i thank you there might be some thinking in the walker camp, as i'm talking here to sources that in many ways, there's so much concern in the establishment of the republican party about donald trump. if they are going to be six establishment candidates splitting up what is basically the rest of the field while this 30% chunk is supporting him, it's possible that the party as a whole is better off if there are fewer of those people if they manage to consolidate support. i do think that there are a chunk of voters who really like what walker's had to say on the union front, maybe they are blue collar voters who have traditionally paid more attention to politics than some of the people that are supporting donald trump who may have been in walker's camp that could now move somewhere else. i think the question is going to be do

we'll see what happens next. >> thank you, kasie. >>> we're going to talk to security right now. just like we saw during the pope's visit to d.c. and new york, philadelphia implemented unprecedented security measures for this pope's visit. many of the highways and bridges leading into the city have been shut down. parking bans have been put into effect. spectators have had to pass through metal detecta aors and screenings. sknroining me is the former director of the secret service. when you look at the kind of security measures needed to be put in place for an event like this. you're talking 1 million to 2 million people that need to be secured for their own sake, as well as for that of the pope, how much planning goes into that? how daunting a task is it? >> it's a massive undertaking, obviously. and the day that the vatican accepted the invitation to come to the united states, the secret service immediately began the planning for that visit. and the secretary johnson from the department of homeland security designated it as a national special security event which gives a great

. >> kasie, in looking at the pictures just now, i don't know if you were able to see this, but on a occasions it appears that secret service agents, it looks to me from their lapel buttons, some of the men in suits were lifting the children. maybe they are with the vatican guards because they are taking children from behind the fences, from behind the bicycle fences, and bringing them up to be blessed. so this must be the vatican security detail. that's pretty amazing. >> reporter: yes, andrea. pete williams reported that was the vatican security detail who were the ones taking the children off the railings and handing them to the pope. i will say, i spoke to some of the secret service agents after everything was over, and they were incredibly nervous he was going to do more than just that. there were some rumors that they had worked it out in advance to make sure that the secret service would be more comfortable with what the pope was going to do. i know they were very, very concerned he was going to get out of the pope mobile and weren't sure how to handle it if it happened. so cl

kasie, how does the tax plan stack up to the plans of other candidates? afternoon. if you compare this plan, this is as you say a detailed plan, something of an evolution in trump's campaign. it is more detailed in many ways on the the immigration proposal and gun rights proposal laid out earlier and still trying to get a sense of how much this tax plan might cost. trump estimates that it would be revenue neutral over ten years and not cost the government any extra money but if you look at plans laid out by other republicans, jeb bush and marco rubio namely, both plans between $3 trillion and $4 trillion over 10 years and at this point trump's plan appears to be more expensive but we're waiting on more detailed annualysis and doesn't touch the mortgage reduction and lowering rates and hard to see how it doesn't end up being more expensive in the long run. other thing to point out is he doesn't say what he would do with the earned income tax benefit and that means that for millions of low income americans they have a negative tax rate and while trump is sa
