news reporter kate larson is live in south san jose where firefighters are still on the scene of a fire that started this afternoon. kate? >> reporter: eric, that's right. going into the weekend, we knew that there was a fire weather watch which then escalated to a red flag warning in some parts of the bay area. firefighters have been busy and you can see that cal fire is still here on the mahlik fire which burned near 101 today. air tankers and cal fire helicopters made water and retardant drops on a fast moving fire that burned more than 200 acres of dry brush in south san jose. >> we had a very, very wet may and that puts people cop placent fire season is far off. but the grasses and fuels that are the fine fuels are ready to burn. >> reporter: the fire started behind this public shooting range sunday afternoon. division chief jim crawford said the range was open and is being investigated as one possible cause of the fire that ignited on a dangerous fire weather weekend. >> it has been very active. a lot of initial attack here locally as well as other fires outside of the area. >> 0
