kate snow: and she was running away with that person. yeah. kate snow (voiceover): a mystery man?t to the bottom of it. well, i called her best friend and said, did cher meet somebody? does she have a man that i don't know about? is something going on? she said, she has never mentioned a guy to me, ever. she's waiting for you. there's none. there's no man in her life. she didn't run away. kate snow (voiceover): but keith noticed something strange about the messages. they weren't written in cher's usual style. instead of small letters, it'd be all capitals. and she'd always write a-r-e, and this would be an r for "are." or "to," the number would be there rather than t-o. so it was just-- it just changed. kate snow (voiceover): and then the text messages simply stopped. cher's aunt mary called the us embassy in panama and begged for help. the embassy made a big point of saying people disappear all the time. and if she wants to be found, she will contact you. and so i had a hard time shouting into the darkness of the embassy, saying, help me, help me. kate snow (voiceover): things go

here's kate snow. good day everyone. we're coming on the air with breaking news from capitol hill, where it appears that the house has just failed to elect a speaker of the house for the new congress. during the first round of voting. it will be official once we hear the gavel. the current speaker, louisiana republican congressman mike johnson, was hoping to win reelection by locking up nearly all republican votes. but republicans have a thin, razor razor thin majority. johnson could only afford to lose one vote from within his party in the first vote. it appears right now that he lost three republican votes. that means the house has not yet nominated a speaker. it means no business can get done until they do that. let's get right to our senior capitol hill correspondent, garrett hake. garrett, the big question is what happens next? well, kate, that's something of an open question right now. you pointed out that johnson had almost no margin for error. this vote total, if it holds up right now means he will have exceeded
