phone calls after the stanley verdict that led know feel like someone needs to speak up on behalf of our city. someone needs to defend what we stand for. and in the 29 months since kate steinly's tragic death, i'm tired of seeing it used to advance donald trump's racist agenda. am i disappointed in the outcome of the case? yes, i am. but the facts of the case were more complicated than a sound byte or tweet. we're talking about a bullet that bounced off the ground, flew 80 feet in the air and struck someone who was a complete stranger to the shooter. maybe the district attorney could have charged different, but it was their decision. they served their civic duty, listened to evidence, and rendered a verdict. we need to respect that. we need to remember that when it all said and done, this is about a family who lost their daughter. this is about a young woman who lost her life. it's not an opportunity for posturing, it's not a rally cry and it's not a reason to upend decades of immigration, and public safety policies in our city. it's time to comfort a grieving family and do what we can to ensure others don't suffer the same tragedy. i want the steinly family to know
