will want to keep your eyes on the skies, our meteorologist are tracking some storms, meteorologist kathy orr has very latest on those storms from the cbs-3 weather center now, kate. >> they started firing up late this afternoon, chris over new castle county delaware and all that activity moved east. we are seeing heavy rain through south philadelphia, that is extending down into delaware county but south jersey really the bull's eye for this. we have flash flood warnings in effect for part of the salem county, gloucester county and southern parts of the camden county in new jersey. you can see all of the red and yellows and some lightening with this as well. rain rates were between about one to 2 inches, an hour, and right now we're still seeing that in some locations, precipitation rate of 1.44 inches an hour right here to the south of elk near winslow and gloucester and pretty much the same, south of gloucester, we are looking at rain rates between about 1 inch an hour or so, close to that, so it is dying down somewhat, as it weakens and moves east. that is good news. williamstown, victory

meteorologist kathy orr is tracking more storms some kathy heading our way root now. >>> that's right. many of them moving toward the north and the east. this was part of the complex system that created the severe weather through baltimore and washington early most of it moving toward the north but some of it sneaking tore the northeast you can see through new castle county delaware and sneaking into south jersey through salem county and even through cumberland cun tee we have some lightning and heavy rain reported here. it will be moving toward the north and the east. but our easterly winds will help to knock down some of the intensity. we'll see it moving toward philadelphia and also our northern and western suburbs during the overnight hours. and we will be seeing more intense storms over the neck couple of days. that easterly wind still about five to 10 miles an hour will be persistent keeping the clouds around so these storms not as heavy. we're seeing about rates of half an inch an hour as far as the precipitation is concerned. but it's moving along quiet quickly. i don't expect

meteorologist kathy orr is tracking the storms, the flooding and kathy now the fog, too. >>> a little bit of everything, chris and jessica. right now on storm scan3 we're seeing drying conditions but earlier today, we saw that heavy rain torrential downpours falling in this warm humid air mass and more is to come. right now we're just seeing some cloudy skies out there but the rain amounts were really incredible. take look at these numbers. sewell, new jersey, nearly 3-inches of rain. over 2.5-inches of rain very short period of time at philadelphia international airport. that's why we call it flash flooding because it happens so quickly without much warning. in clayton new jersey over 2-inches. is lower val 1.73. wilmington 1.71-inches of rain. now, we are going to be seeing drier atmosphere for at least about 12 to 24 hour period. but then more storms coming our way and these will pack an even bigger punch as the moisture comes up from the gulf of mexi mexico. so we'll talk about the foggy start for some coming up and also when those storms will be returning and these most likely wi

. >> let's go right over to meteorologist kathy orr whose tracking the storms want we can expect throughhe night. kathy? >> we can expect very heavy rains, some rumbles of thunder, and potential for flooding on area roads and poor drainage areas. our streams and creeks are already running high. this line of showers and thunderstorms does have a history of dumping about 1 inch plus of rain in a short period of time. the tent is enormous from bangor maine down to washington, d.c. 600 miles long. it is moving east at about 30 miles an hour and you can see all the heavy rain associated with it. extending from our suburbs right through wilmington, of course, right down 95 through baltimore and washington. at this speed we do anticipate it will be in wilmington at this moment it's moving in philadelphia by 11:20. cherry hill by 11:36. and gloucester by 11:49. so for the rest of the late night hours we expect downpours on the philadelphia side. localized flooding frequent lightning and gusty winds. we already have a flood advisory in effect for our poor drainage areas and also our small streams

let's start off with meteorologist kathy orr she's keeping track of when and where we'll see the rain tonight. kathy? >> you saw that line of showers and thunderstorms moving through the south of williamsport hea heading toward the south and east. this we have been to be watchful of overnight. my eye is on this right here storms moving across the bay along the eastern shore of maryland at about 30 miles an hour and they will be impacting delaware soon. you can see the severe thunderstorm watch right now extending as far east as lancaster county. and we'll keep an eye on that overnight to so if it gets extended thunder to the east into our region. but focusing on this cell right here talking about heavy rains associated with it, and also freak lightning. some ponding on area roads with very heavy rain. this cell will be near crumb ton at 11:01. seconds away here at this time. dover by 11:41 and in bauers by 11:55. it's not severe but it's very heavy rain, 40 miles an hour winds and also frequent lightning. overnight threats with these storms heavy downpours. frequent lightning. not dam

. >> we have team three coverage top night's flooding we'll begin with meteorologist kathy orr busy tracking this run of unsettled weather we've been seeing kathy. >> it was wild afternoon as a flood advisory turned into a flood warning. weak boundary set and late this afternoon focus mechanism for showers and thunderstorms and some heavy downpours right through montgomery and northern parts of philadelphia county and it blew up creating significant flooding through the region as these storms were very slow to move out. they lingered over the same area for a couple of hours dumping buckets of rain careen 88ing sense. that flood warning continues until midnight we still have road closures as a result and our streams and creeks will be running high through the overnight. take a look at some of these rain amounts right in that warning area in ambler, 2.84-inches of rain recorded by a spotter an official spotter right in that area when we saw the nash flooding happened in a very short period of time creating the significant flooding. chester springs about inch and a half. over an inch of trenton

our meteorologist kathy orr is here now with more on how these unusual twin tornadoes came to be. thy? >>> chris, during the evolution live cycle of a tornado it is not that rare to see it changing and evolving and having more than one vortices or funnel. two tornadoes touching down and creating significant damage. when you look at the picture it is amazing see this captured. eerily similar to the 1965 twin or sister tornadoes taken from indiana. this was a palm sunday outbreak that included these twin or sister tornadoes and you're going to be hearing a lot of comparisons between these two storms. this particular outbreak back in 1965 was the third worst or deadliest ever in the nation's history and we hope that is not going to be the same for the outbreak out in the midwest right now. locally, we're looking at some showers be thunderstorms as very strong cell heading toward leesport. reading berks county seeing a few flashes of lightning as we well. 40 miles an hour gusts with this and also some heavy downpours but by the time it makes it into philadelphia i think it will be a fe

let's check first with meteorologist kathy orr. she's outside on the cbs-3 sky deck with the heat advisory that goes into effect tomorrow. kathy. >>> yes, more summer sizzling heat and humidity. it will be hotter tomorrow. it will be more humid and it is going to feel oppressive across the delaware valley. right now, we're looking at dry conditions and a little bit of a it's helping to cut through that muggy air mass sitting over us. we are seeing some showers and thunderstorms to the north and west of us, and some of these will be moving into places like the poconos and possibly the northern lehigh valley and then dying out. more numerous showers and thunderstorms will be coming over the next couple of days. right now, 81 in philadelphia. the air is so thick. allentown 81. 83 in reading. 82 in wilmington. that heat advisory goes into effect at noon and it continues through the day wednesday when you combine the heat and humidity, it will feel like it's around 100 degrees and we are going to be seeing even warmer temperatures. comin

meteorologist kathy orr is now tracking some changes. think we can all be happy about these, kathy. >> that's right. we are seeing clearing skies to the west a few more showers and ice layed thunderstorms popping up on storm scan3. heavy rain through avalon and stone harbor right now. along our shore points moving right up route nine and also the parkway but that will be ending win the next half hour are so. another line of storms broken up as it moves toward the east and here's our cold front going through central pennsylvania. and that will be the line that clears us out overnight tonight. we have had some high amounts of rain across the region between one and 2-inches of rain through a good part of the area. and that flash flood watch will continue into the early morning hours but we'll be allowed to expire as we only have a few more showers out there tonight. overnight a few scattered showers, isolated storm. some moderate to heavy rain with pockets of that. and some wind gusts where we see heavier downpours but that threat will wayne

meteorologist kathy orr joins us from outside from the cbs-3 sky deck with what we can expect as the week rolls rolls along. >> it is warm but air is dry. you kind of feel comfortable. that won't be the case tomorrow. temperatures will be warmer making it to 90 degrees. humidity will rise making it feel like the dog days of summer. you remember those? it has been a while though. lets take a look at storm scan three. we have a few showers, few isolated thunder showers out there heading towards baltimore and washington. we have another batch west of williamsport but by the time they make it to our area rather it will be in the form of the the scattered shower. philadelphia 87. high to daze 88. allentown 85. trenton 85. down the the shore temperatures in the 70's. this evening it will be warm, 82 at 7:00 p.m. moon lit and muggy at 9:00. . in m at 78. by 11:00 p.m. the stray shower is possible. especially towards midnight hour. temperature is 75 degrees. coming up we will take a look at our stretch of 90's and also, when the storms return to the forecast, you know, it won't be long. i'll

meteorologist kathy orr is outside on the cbs-3 sky deck with more on what we can expect as we start e weekend kathy. >> feeling like summer already. only hours away and right now we have a partly cloudy sky but it's very comfortable on the cbs-3 sky deck. it is just a sign of what's to come. now, on storm scan3 we're track something clouds moving our way from a system and they're making their way down the shore alrea already. you can see the boards still a little busy in ocean city, cape may county, and a lot of people heading down the shore this weekend. the clouds are rolling into philadelphia as well. the showers well to the south toward washington and even into richmond and a few of those showers and sprinkles will make it our way. right now, in philadelphia, 76. atlantic city 66. a big difference there. allentown 69 and cooling down to 61 already in the poconos. future weather shows the clouds thickening during the over into the with a few sprinkles possible into saturday morning. but notice some sunshine through trenton, philadelphia, even allentown and our suburbs on saturday
