katie hobbs has an advantage here, 52.4% to 47.6%. we've been told to expect tonight at some point to get a similar size vote drop that we got yesterday. that would be roughly around 80 thousa 80,000 votes or so we may get out of maricopa county. these are mail ballots that people filled out but actually dropped them off at an election center on election day. so when we see what those votes look like when they come in tonight, we'll have a better understanding of where this race is going. right now, this is a much closer race than that mark kelly/blake masters senate race was that we projected yesterday. just to remind you, mark kelly was at nearly 52%, blake masters at 46% now in the vote count. mark kelly currently has 131,000 vote lead over blake masters. you can see why we were able to project mark kelly the winner in that race. if you go back to the governors race this was a much more important contest. kari lake has roots in the phoenix area. she's been on tv there for years. she is a known person in this most populace county. s

and katie hobbs was winning big.ning big in the senate race because it was all of this early mail votes that they had tabulated ahead of time in the released. and then what happened was in the overnight hours on election night they tabulate the same-day vote. the folks who just went to vote and pieces of election. they heavily republican is what brought it into single digits. and from that point forward, kari lake's campaign, republicans were all saying, just wait until you get to the same j. drop off. the mail-in ballots that people dropped off at the polls on election day. again, there were 300,000 of them out of maricopa county and they said that is going to be wet delivers this election to kari lake. that is what was going to deliver the senate race to blake masters. and we just had three or four days now consecutively of updates that have occurred at this ballot. and every time we've gotten them, the numbers have just not been there for kari lake. she was already in a position -- she was thrown a hail mary pass

democrat katie hobbs leads republican kari lake.zona is grabbing headlines with its senate race right now. cnn is projecting the incumbent democrat senator mark kelly will hold on to his seat. that means the senate is now deadlocked with republicans and democrats having 49 seats each. democrats will keep control of the senate with at least 50 seats, and that could come from nevada where new numbers are also being released soon. republican adam laxalt holds a razor-thin lead over the democratic incumbent, senator cath catherine cortez masto right now. his lead has shrivelled to a mere 862 votes. that's 862 votes out of nearly a million counted so far. we're following all of the key races and all of the latest developments. our reporters are out there in the battleground states. john berman will break it down at the magic wall. let's go to kyung lah first. what are you seeing? >> reporter: we are waiting and anticipating in the next couple of minutes or so, we are hoping. it has been a bit fluid every single night, but we are anticipa

trump fire brand kari lake has cut into the lead held by democrat katie hobbs.et's begin this hour in arizona. kyung lah is at the maricopa county election center in phoenix, where those voting numbers were just released. kyung, what's the latest there? >> reporter: i'm looking down at my phone because we're just getting responses from the campaigns. i want to start by saying the kari lake campaign has not really said anything to reporters. and that's an unusual pattern. most nights, there has been confidence. they have given us an indication that they still think they're going to win. the latest that we're hearing is that they're going to wait. they're going to wait and see. we are seeing a statement that katie hobbs -- she is the democrat -- that she has just posted on twitter, saying that they believe with this latest tabulation result, that katie hobbs is the unequivocal favorite to become the next governor of arizona. that's a bit of confidence, given that these numbers are still really out there. what we saw tonight are 98,000 votes that were released by m

katie hobbs is in the lead in this county. she's getting a higher percentage here, so the building block county by county, 15 in arizona, she's doing well. let's switch to the senate race here. here we go right here. so mark kelly was getting 62% in pima county in this new batch, 15,000 votes, a little shy of that, 69%. he's doing better than what he needs to do to keep his lead. blake masters, 31%, that's less than he had. so this particular batch, that doesn't guarantee it continues or he won't do well in the next one, but still a lot of votes to count as she just told us. every batch that comes in meaning the universe of possibility shrinks and this is not enough for blake masters. it's simply not enough. he's going to wrong direction in that particular batch. >> these new numbers we got are not necessarily part of the total statewide numbers. >> they're not because she was giving them to us live first and then they get reported to the state and then our data people double check and triple check. >> his lead has now gone up

katie hobbs is getting 51% if you round that up. 49% for kari lake. tay above 50 you. win if you stay above 50. the new votes come in, she is getting 65%. you're not only meeting your bar, she is about 49 or 50% to keep that lead. so you want to get 50% any time in an election. 50% of every new batch that comes in or more. 65%, so you're happy. you're happy if you're in the dobbs campaign. again, it's a democratic county, but every vote counts. you want to stretch that lead out, because you are worried. kari lake was a anchor in the phoenix suburbs. she'll have more support in larger more populous maricopa county. now let's switch to the senate race. senator kelly has a bigger lead. it's up to 107,000 now because of this. it was about 100,000 last time we spoke. now it's up to about 107,000 because of this. and look what's happening with it. he is at 51, 52% to 46%. so mark kelly, if he gets 49%, he could still win this race. he wants to get 50 or more in every one of these. well can do a statistical analysis or just have common sense. to keep your lea

i thought i heard something else and i didn't. 29,000-vote lead state-wide for katie hobbs.ty of 24,000 votes to break the democrats' way. it did break the democrats' way. that's about what we expected, a net gain of nearly 4,000 votes for hobbs in the state-wide tally. that sets the stage for what's going to be coming any time starting about 15 minutes from now. officials have indicated in maricopa county that somewhere in the 8:00 hour east coast time they are going to release their final giant batch of votes. and this is from by far the biggest county in the state. you can see the stakes for kari lake, this really is, this is her hail mary pass. what's coming up in maricopa county. she has now fallen behind nearly 30,000 votes state-wide. we're talking about a very specific type of vote that's going to be reported out of mare acopa county at 8:00. these are mail-in ballots voters dropped off at the polls on election day. this has been a somewhat republican friendly batch of votes as it's been tallied the last few nights, but lake has not been hitting nearly the numbers sh

katie hobbs lead. what this does not include is the what you mentioned there, the two hundred ninety thousand ballots that were dropped off record breaking number of ballots dropped off in person on election day, the early ballots. now, that wasn't enthusiasm, enthusiasm for katie hobbs. that was those were catholic voters. and so we're really looking forward to them finally telling the whole story in maricopa county. they still have over three hundred and twenty five thousand or so to go. and the numbers are only going to get better from there. and so even if they had dropped those seventeen thousand alone, that would have destroyed the lead that the maricopa county is artificially propagating out there. so we do feel pretty good about the top of the ticket in arizona. so, again, this is the gubernatorial race. and even though katie hobbs is now up, i think one point three , four percent with what we know right at this moment, you're saying that ballots that were brought to the polling centers on elec
