firefighters at the scene so is katie marzullo. gut-wrenching waiting for the decision on where everybody is. >> reporter: it is. such a brutal waiting game. the scene has changed out here in the last few moments when began 1:00 this morning there were multiple fire engines out here, so many crews now all have left except a single engine and a handful of crews. i can see one firefighter squatting down inside he's outside -- that is part of the problem they can't go deep into the house at this hour worried about the structural safety of the home because when they arrived this morning the home was fully engulfed from floor to ceiling. they made what they had to make was a tough decision when they first got on scene. >> considered maybe doing a -- going into a rescue mode however because of the fire conditions we quickly determined that rescue would have been inappropriate due to the extent of the fire so we went to a defensive mode. >> reporter: based on what neighbors have told the crews, a family of four lived in this home mom, dad

firefighters are at the scene so is katie marzullo. >> reporter: this is a tough one.can tell the mood out here is hopeful, but realistic. the latest news that a family of four is unaccounted for, mom, dad and two younger children. you can take a look at the scene behind us. you can see this fire is out. the fire has been out for hours, the 911 call came in at 1:00 this morning, took firefighters about an hour, more than an hour to put it out. it has been out since 2:00. the fire fully engulfed home and did so much damage the house is not structurally safe for crews to go in and do the full search the room by room search they want to do. neighbors know a family of four lives here. there are two cars parked on the driveway. but the family is unaccounted for. they could be out of town, they could be on vacation. it is everyone's hope out here that the family is in a safe location. we just won't know that for hours. they are waiting for the sun to come up when the structural engineers can get to work and get on the scene until then, it is a waiting game. crews putting out

katie marzullo is live in alameda with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. let me show you the boat it is over our shoulder 40 foot pleasure craft looks like a beached wail on the rocks now that's where the woman was found. -- as for what is happening now this convoluted situation police itching the roads and coast guard searching the water going going grid by grid because there might be another woman missing. they are bringing in a truck with a boon to contain what might be a fuel leak. this began before 2:00 this morning someone called in the boat crash fire crews arrived and a citizen was already helping the woman off the boat described only as a woman in her 20s. she told authorities she had another woman with her. the coast guard of course immediately launched a search that woman piloting the boat wasn't sure if her companion had left of her own accord by foot or if she was in the water. the coast guard started the search. police took that woman into custody. they believe alcohol was involved in this whole situation and it is not something they see ever

katie marzullo is live at the oakland police department. >> reporter: yesterday afternoon folks in oakland probably thought they heard as much gunfire as they needed for one day then there was more. there are at least 10 victims possibly an 11th. the most recent happened this morning around 1:00, a man was shot he was in his 40s shot at 83rd and international he was taken to the hospital in critical and in surgery at this hour. at the scene police did arrest a suspect. sunday afternoon was the big shootout at adeline between 32nd and 34th street, several shot and wounded fully automatic weapon was involved. nobody was killed. seven people did go to the hospital with gunshot injuries. two other separate shootings sunday one in the morning 5:30 and another sunday afternoon after the main shootout. if you have been keeping count that makes 10 victims and there might be an 11th. we are investigating reports of gunfire at west act arthur this morning. no word if -- word if this is connected or what the motive might have been. katie marzullo, abc7 news. >>> san jose police investigating that cit

it is 5:00 i'm katie marzullo in for eric thomas. >>> and i'm kristen sze. a domestic violence suspect who slashed his own throat in front of police officers is on the loose after a hospital mistakenly releases him. amy hollyfield is live at the hayward police department. >> reporter: everything was fine. they had him in custody, then someone accidentally let him go. here's who they are looking for, 32-year-old jose hernandez. police believe he not only broke into his ex-girlfriend's home but that he stabbed himself. they consider him unstable and dangerous. police took him into custody and dropped him off the john george psychiatric pavillion in san leandro for a psychiatric evaluation that's where they wanted him to go first then jail. police found him at his ex-girlfriend's house where we had broken a window. when officers arrived they say he stabbed himself. they took him to the hospital. the hospital let him go sunday night. supposed to release him back to police. he is on the loose. they know he took a cab to the hayward union city border they haven't

katie marzullo is live in the newsroom to explain. >> reporter: the lack of redevelopment funding leaves oakland 28 million dollars in debt. that money was contributing for to the salaries of 200 city employees in 11 departments. 200 people are not being laid off and there is other good news. funding has been saved for the oakland zoo, children's father land, hacienda historical -- park and some jobs in the original proposal, those community destinations faced a 40% cut to their budgets. new budget leaves them whole. however in the final plan 105 positions eliminated. not all were filled so 80 people losing their jobs. the city is going to sell a former fire station and parks and recreation and human services departments are merging that could mean some centers will have to reduce their hours. the budget passed 6-1, one councilmember call it heartbreaking, but necessary. police, fire and library budgets, untouched. katie marzullo, abc7 news. >>> a vegetable san francisco school -- a eventer in able san francisco school closed no classes after hundreds of students came down with a bad sto
