i'm katie marzullo. the chilling new video shows the brutal execution of a third westerner at the hands of the extremist group called isis. abc 7 news reporter sergio quintana is live in the newsroom now with more on this story. >> reporter: katie, this killing comes on the same day that the family of aid worker david haines appealed to the terrorist group for his release. this still image of the moments before david haines's execution looks familiar. the british voice of the executioner is similar to that of the person who killed u.s. journalist james foley and steven sotloff. haines is a british citizen who worked for a french humanitarian agency. he was abducted in syria in march of 2013. haines's brother released a statement writing, "his joy and anticipation for the work he did in syria is for myself and family the most important element of this whole sad affair. he was and is loved by all his family and will be missed terribly." haines had two children, a 4-year-old girl and a teenage daughter. in

i'm katie marzullo. new at 11:00, police have cleared 16 squatters from a san francisco building. they weren't just seeking temporary shelter but looking to live there in the long term and it took nearly a month for the building's owner to realize they were there. abc 7 reporter lisa ammin glessian is live with more. >> reporter: the police rounded everyone up this afternoon after the property owner's agent noticed that back gate behind me wide open. it's now lokds. but as you can see, a lot of the squatters' stuff has been lined up and pulled out of the building. many of the people who were living inside are now outside. they're watching their things and figuring out their next move. 16 squatters living illegally in this six-unit building were forced out by police today. >> i haven't seen anything this big only because most buildings of this size are not left vacant for this long. >> one officer called this a well-organized squatting operation. the three-story building had stood empty for six months whi

live team coverage begins with katie marzullo. katie?ene since the fire began, the wind keeps changing, getting quite windy again. what's left of the smoke could waft over you at any time and smack you in the face. let me give you a live picture of what's happening on the scene. i was just able to talk with the fire chief out here, the peer is contained but there are still hotspots inside, and there is still a very real threat that it could reignite. take a look at this video, our photographer was on the ground and closer than anyone else as this fire was really at its peak. so much fire, and water that there is now a danger of collapse on top of the danger of things reigniting. city inspectors ultimately will have to decide if they tear this building down, the chief of the fire department thinks they will have to do that. the fire erupted after 1:00 this afternoon, inside a 3 story building, we understand they had everything inside there from clothes to toys and trinkets, that kind of stuff, the people inside got out by themselves, fire

i'm katie marzullo. the 49ers now lead the league in player arrests. more on what led to mcdonald's arrest. >> reporter: according to police, ray mcdonald was booked into the santa clara county jail on felony domestic violence charges. he posted a $25,000 bond later in the morning and was released. according to the sacramento bee, mcdonald was having a birthday party at his home when he and his pregnant fiancee got into a fight. when police arrived on scene, she showed officers bruises on her neck and arms. that's when officers placed mcdonald under arrest without incident. his is the first case since nfl commissioner roger goodell announced tougher penalties to deal with domestic violence last thursday. according to a letter he sent to all team owners, a first offense would mean an automatic six game suspension. a second offense would be dismissal from the league. in the letter, he also wrote more severe penalties for a first offense would be considered for violence involving a weapon, choking, repeated striking or when the act is committed against a

katie marzullo joins us live with the latest developments on that fire. >> reporter: demolition couldd also not start until tomorrow. they are waiting on getting permits in order and then that process can begin. but building inspectors did decide yesterday and you can see from the damage here that the building is a total loss and it's going to have to come down. meanwhile on bartlett street, which is behind this business and in the opposite direction as the smoke was blowing yesterday, there are resident who is are still trying to air out their apartment. a fan faces out the door and the windows are wide open. inside, it still smells like smoke. >> our house was just really filled with smoke even last night and the firefighteringsst said that it was probably dangerous to sleep here. so we all slept elsewhere. >> reporter: she showed us her backyard. it butts right up against the store that caught fire. at one point, this tree was on fire and hillary thought for sure she'd lose her home. a neighbor felt the same way. >> i just feel so fortunate. i felt fortunate that the firefighters w
