. >> katie packer is the spokeswoman for the anti-trump movement, our principles pac and joins me nowefforts of your organization conceded new york and not spending any money there. do you regret that decision? >> actually, we don't regret that decision. i don't think we actually conceded new york, we understood in trump's home state, it was a place he was very strong, running well over 50% in most of the polls ahead of the election there. our calculation was we didn't need new york to stop him from getting 1237. we anticipated he would sweep all the delegates there. he lost five of them. by our math and our calculation, we actually came out a little bit ahead of new york because we weren't expecting to get any delegates out of new york. this doesn't really change our strategy at all. >> out of wisconsin, i think some people would say there was a celebration from your group. some said it was spiking the football about what you were able to achieve there for senator ted cruz. we had a memo sent out by the chief strategist for john kasich's team, john weaver and says donald trump will n

. >> katie packer, founder of the anti-trump pac, our priorities. first your reaction. this confirms i guess precisely the kind of story you and your allies have been telling about trump for months now. >> well, i mean, trump is the guy that's almost 70 years old, i don't think he's a leopard that's going to change his spots any time soon. i think it's telling that he felt he needed to bring in this whole slew of washington lobbyists, and like your first story mentioned, just representing sort of the dredges of the international society, to try to remake him in their image. and of course they want to reassure people that the guy that they've seen for the last year isn't the guy that's going to represent them, because republicans are terrified of that. this is a guy that just has no character, has no grace, no class, no dignity, and is totally unsuited to be president of the united states. and rnc members recognize it. >> that may be true. the members may recognize it. but let me just sketch out the landscape. he had a pretty good night in new york. he lost a few delegat

and katy packer, the head of the anti-trump our principals pac, says she's encouraged by the news.rump has responded, tweeting that lying ted and kasich are going to collude in order to keep me from getting the republican nomination, desperation. and in a campaign statement, trump continued the collusion line while also saying, because of me, everyone now sees the republican primary system is totally rigged and that this is yet another example of everything that is wrong in washington and our political system. there are 57 delegates at stake in indiana and nearly as many combined in oregon and new mexico. and the latest poll out of indiana shows trump with an 8% lead over cruz. kasich is far behind. before all of this played out, trump's oldest son, donald trump jr., spoke out against cruz, saying he has no chance of winning without, quote, bribing the delegates. tomorrow night five states are holding primaries, all in the northeast. expect another big night for trump. he's ahead by 18% in pennsylvania with cruz and kasich well behind but in a close race for second. in rhode island

i was talking to katie packer, one of the people heating this stop trump movement going for warned sayy're absolutely not backing off any of this and they intend to push forward pretty aggressively. i have to say, i also spoke to some people who do want to see trump stopped and they're fra frankly increasingly pessimistic it's going be possible. kate. >> kasie hunt in florida. pennsylvania is the big gop wild card in next week's slate of primaries where more than three-quarters of the slate of delegates won't be decided by voters. pennsylvania has 54 unbound delegates who can support whoever they want at july's republican convention regardless which candidate wins the primary on tuesday. msnbc's delegate hunter, jacob, is in philadelphia where he found an undecided, unbound delegate. tell us more. >> reporter: kate, it's not that hard to find and undecided unbound delegate. if you had the power to decide the nomination, would you wait until the last minute? that's the choice these unbound delegates are faced for, where 54 could stop donald trump in his tracks from winning the nominatio

. >> katie packer, pac. >> who what is your roll in that pac. >> polling. >> joining me now, ed geek. how are you doing to do it. stop trump? >> we have been doing it. >> doesn't look that way with the numbers. >> it does. i have to loek look at the overall numbers. and not looking at it as an establishment but as a pollster. one of the interesting things about this election, when it started we had two candidates with almost universal name id, one was hillary clinton. one was donald trump. both of hymn them had a 55% unfavorable rating before this campaign started. today hillary still has a 55% unfavorable rating. today donald trump has a 65% unfavorable rating. and 53% feel that strongly. we have two flawed candidates, one of which has become more flawed when you look at the general election. >> all right. >> that's a major concern. >> okay but listen, ed, you have been a republican party insider for many years. and i mean, have you ever worked against a republican to stop a republican? don't you work for candidates? >> i always work for candidates. but in this -- >> who are you work

kati packer, a former advisor who heads the main stop trump effort wrote it's not too late. as republican leaders it's critical that you do everything in your power to prevent donald trump from being our party's standard bearer. the only problem is her side is in retreat. trump's message has put party leaders on the defensive. perhaps most important there doesn't seem to be an alternative to the front-runner. robert costa and msnbc political analyst is the chairman of the american conservative union and joy reid is an msnbc correspondent. let's start with robert costa. is this a fair assessment looking to stop trump, trump swept it this tuesday and now you don't seem to hear much about the stop trump movement. >> chris, i'm here in hollywood, florida just across the street. having meetings all day yesterday and today with members of the republican national committee trying to get their pulse of what's happening with the party. there's a sense among many of them and acceptance fees that trump will be the nominee and willing to accept there's some resistance. what we're seeing

. >> katie packer dropping her opinions as well. this point that would help ted cruz? >> well, i don't know that we can know that. you know, there's been a lot of speculating over time that if one candidate got out, another candidate would be helped. we are very interested in depriving donald trump of the necessary delegates to get a majority. if kasich can accomplish that in a place where ted cruz can't, then so be it. we're not advocating for anybody to get out. each of these candidates has the right to launch their campaign and aggressively pursue the campaign. we're totally focused of depriving donald trump of the 1237. >> so let's play a hypothetical game here. let's say you do deprive him. he doesn't make it past the first ballot, then what? who emerges? >> i don't think we know the answer to that. i do think on the second, third and fourth ballot that his numbers are going to drop precipitously because i don't think he has the majority of support of republicans, certainly not republicans that are very active and likely to be

i saw katy packer say we with respect ever going to spend any money in new york. you in maryland last week? why aren't you in connecticut last week? >> the movement seem to be very effective in wisconsin. kentucky numbers were really low. everyone established around cruz as the alternative kasich did pretty welcome paired to cruz. cruz was even further down. that's a problem for cruz next week. you don't want to come in third. you have to keep the delegates between them. >> rebecca, let me read you the lead of this john kasich fund-raiser tonight. make no mistake, new york was a big step forward for our campaign. trump was always going to win his home state, we not only walked away with delegates, three, cruz got zero. we got 25%. is 25% a strong second place? >> maybe when you're john kasich. when there's not a lot of good news you have to take what you can get and run with it. no, it's not a strong second place finish. frankly, i think, most people would agree that trump over performed. a lot of models had him around 80 delegates. he ended up sweeping with a few

katie packer, also the chair of the our principles pac, leading the fight against donald trump.the audio there saying we're going to be seeing a different donald trump, an evolved donald trump, a more presidential donald trump. do you buy it? >> i don't buy it. you know, i think donald trump has brought in a lot of high-priced d.c. lobbyists and operatives to come in and try to clear the path for him. to the nomination. but, you know, i don't think a guy that's about 70 years old is somebody that's going to change his personality any time soon. i think this guy we have seen that is very brash, makes sexist, racist comments on a regular basis, is very offensive and cites violence, that's not somebody who is going to change his personality and his tone any time soon. he seems to think that it's brought him some success. and, you know, the american people and the republican party aren't auditioning for a role -- auditioning somebody for a role in a reality show. this is an important role, and an important job. and these issues matter to people. and i think the lack of seriousness i

i spoke to katie packer and al principal's pack in the 2:00 hour, they said it was part of their strategy to skip over new york. she wouldn't commit to where they would be spending money for indiana and maryland, but they're looking at it. john kasich's team are out with a memo combining about the never trump folks, and the fact that they're kind of giving up their efforts. do you think that right now that is the strategy? turn a blind eye for the next several state contests and see where they can pick up and maybe thwart trump's efforts out west? >> well, they had to go where it was possible to make a difference. in new york, it would cost so much money for them to get a message to voters, it would have been prohibitive. plus, they would have to do so much targeting in congressional districts. now going out to indiana, that's a much more recently media market, they can make a difference and plan that way. when they play, they have to be effective and win, or else be written off. in new york, they said, we're not playing here, so you can't judge them so pch. >> might be playing possum for

katie packer, who runs our principles pac shared credit citing $2 million in tv advertising in addition million voter contacts. and she tells nbc news that going forward they will stop focusing as much on statewide wins.
