ktvu's katy eustis is live at the airport looking into the problem and explains what is being done toix it. >> reporter: around sunset every night workers in the control tower turn on the lights, when the lights didn't turn on yesterday planes were rerouted and electricians got to work. >> reporter: oakland airport spokesman said they are trying to solve a mystery. >> trying to figure out how to prevent it from happening again. >> reporter: around 8:00 p.m. last night the control tower tried to turn on the lights for the runways. the lanes close to say the water. >> fortunately only 5 aircraft had to be redirected and we were pleased we received no complaints. >>> for 20 minutes they used the north runways. >> we apologize to those folks who were impacted. it is not our desire to cause excess noise. >> reporter: they turned the lights on manually on the field and will do so tonight if it isn't resolved -- >> reporter: last month a pg&e power outage effected the airport. we learned today a bird landed on a power line and that caused that outage. live, katy eustis, ktvu channel 2 news.
