now to kayla. the banks starting to respond to this breach but it doesn't seem that lots of people are feeling particularly happy about their response. what's going on some. >> i don't know if you would feel particularly happy if you're one of the 40 million customers that got a notice about this but the banks found out about the breach the same time the public did. that data had been stripped from the magnetic stripes of cards they issued. the foremost advice to customers, get that card replaced. industry blog reported today that account data retrieved in the target hack are being sold on the black market for between 20 and $100 a pop. it's a pain but the sooner one of those cards is replaced the less likely a customer's account information can be used. some banks are putting limits on what those accounts can spend. chase customers can't withdraw more than $250 cash or spend more than $1,000 a day. that caps the amount of bank could have to reimburse a customer if that liability falls in the finan

kayla?, how do we area what you're telling about this strong data, better than expected, driven by the consumer and all the anecdotal stuff coming from the shopping season at the moment that floor traffic is done 22%. how do we square those things? >> that's a really good question, simon. our all-america survey looked for a decline in holiday spending. it could be it's happening in areas that are not traditional holiday spending. services have come back pretty strongly and autos have come back pretty strongly. that could be one aspect the other thing is the surveys not picking up what's happening with the consumer yesterday. we had pretty strong wage growth yesterday in personal spending area and we've been looking for the wealth effect that's been created in stocks and house bei -- housing, perhaps we're seeing it right now. >> robert pavlec and robert join us. robert, we saw a blockbuster number on durable goods, new home sales don't look so bad. what do you make of all of this? >> you rea

kayla, you to first. this is a surprise. >> it is a surprise and this is from "the washington post," an article citing data from the university of california berkeley that says a third of bank tellers tap government entitlement programs roughly $900 million as they struggle with low wages in a profitable industry. compared to the national poverty line 23,000 for a family of four, the bank tellers in this country make roughly below $26,000. far lower than other jobs at these banks. underrioters and financial advisors clock in under $100,000. bank executives to the s.e.c. make over $500,000 for their salaries. the biggest banks get an average of $15.1 million. but in an industry where the skillsets range from highly specialized and risky to relatively administrative, you can understand why there is some sort of a pay gap. but when you compare a teller's salary to what the bureau of labor statistics said are comparable clerk jobs they fall behind. half of what postal carriers get. less than customer service

kayla, take it away. >> thank you so much, scott. we're here with bill rogers, the ceo of suntrust. you're focused on one of the hardest hit areas during the financial crisis, the credit has come back. growth has improved. what is the customer feeling like? >> i think they're feeling they're on better ground, feeling a little more confident. it helps that in our markets that employment has recovered faster than the rest of the economy, sort of back to your comment, and housing prices recovered, and those are all things that make the consumer feel more confident. and we're seeing that. >> when we look at housing prices, they were slower to recover -- raleigh, atlanta -- and talk about right-sizing the mortgage business. >> we had to right-size based on the refinance volume. so clearly, the up tick in rates, that changes the dynamic of mortgage. so the right-sizing was predicated on getting a level that's sort of in line with where we'll be in the purchase market. >> and when does that stabilize? when do you see some of the purchasing come back, do you expect? >> it's kind of -- this

. >>> take kayla tauschle now wit breaking news. >> ilfc sold to a consortium of chinese bidders.year since that deal has fallen apart largely because of funding issues. now i've learned that aig is in late-stage talks with the largest aircraft leasing company. it's based in the netherlands. ticker aer. and you can see it moving intraday. it would buy ilfc for $5 billion. a mix of cash and stock in the deal that's on the table. now, we should note these are late-stage talks and that it's unclear whether aig has terminated the previous deal that it had in place. so, of course, with these deals that aren't completely finished, they could fall apart, and there's a lot of ts to cross and is to dot in this situation. though i'm told if it goes as planned, they could announce a deal as soon as next week. $5 billion, tyler, a little better than the $4.2 billion that aig would have gotten from the other deal. you would get aircap stock as well. $2.5 billion market cap company doing a $5 billion deal. if you're a shareholder, that would be transformative. >> look at the market reaction on

and kayla tausche joins us with more on what's happened over the weekend. kayla?ly a quiet time for the banks. a lot of the executives are on holiday. a lot of their public relations people are taking their vacation. but banks have snapped into action responding to millions of customers whose credit and debit card data were stolen from devices at target's cash register. some of those customers using target red cards. that activity has fallen over the weekend. according to chase, just under 10% of the customers were at risk. you can see the scale of these institutions and people who were actually affected. most of which sent out statements this weekend, similar to those of citigroup which reiterated this. we want our customers to know they are not liable for any unauthorized use of their accounts. the key, let your bank know as soon as possible if you spot fraudulent activity. they're combing through purchases looking for things that customers may have missed. target has said it believes very few customers were actually victims of fraud, but website that broke the
