joining us to explain is kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks.> reporter: good morning, frank and michelle. if you get some of that detroit pizza, send some down here! haven't heard of that before. the stock market is certainly looking a lot about ther now than in january. we had that big sell-off one of the worst starts ever to a year for the stock market. but thanks to the market rallying in recent weeks including the dow working with a 5-day winning streak, the blue chips have turned positive for 2016 and the s&p 500 also positive with its gain this morning. the nasdaq still 200 points away investors feeling better now that the fed scaled back its interest rate plans for 2016 and oil prices have rallied over the past few weeks. oil trading above $41 for the first time in 2016. that's helping out energy companies and lifting stocks overall. seaworld shares higher yesterday by 10% after they said they will no longer breed whales and ending killer whale shows. the company has dealt with criticism after the black fish controversy that erupted and

joining us now is kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks.rning. >> reporter: good morning, frank and michelle. homebuilders are whistling a happier tune. they saw a big rebound in housing starts in february. the commerce department says starts were up over 5%. nice rebound after declines the prior two months but building permits were down over 3% so it might be tough to sustain that particular level of growth. also getting a report on consumer side inflation from the labor department. now, while overall prices were down by 2/10% in february from the prior month, if you strip out gas and food, and, of course, gas prices have been down a lot, the core rate was up and over the past 12 months, the core rate was up 2.3%. that's higher than the feds' target of 2% which is also key as the fed wraps up a two-day meeting today. most not expecting a rate hike but stronger inflation along with the stronger job growth that we have seen over the past few months could push the federal reserve close to a rate hike later this year. >>> oracle is topping ear

here's kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks. >> good morning.ortunately news coming for employees of mckesson. the san francisco-based wholesale drug distributor announcing it's going to cut 1600 jobs, 4% of its u.s. workforce. it needs to cut costs to meet new business strategies. couple of weeks ago, mckesson went on a buying spree picking up three companies for $3 billion including canada's rexall pharmacy chain. unemployment was up 7,000 to 265,000. the four-week average flat. overall levels suggesting solid job growth. that was something noted by the federal reserve and wrapped up in its two-day meeting and left interest rates unchanged. williams-sonoma reported earnings for the 4th quarter and the san francisco-based company disappointed investors with its results. its revenue is up less than 3%. and while its sales were higher at the flagship chain and west elm did well, pottery barn sales were down by 2% and pottery barn is the biggest revenue generator for williams- sonoma. and as a result, williams- sonoma shares are tumbling in the ea

i'm gianna franco in the "kcbs traffic" center. danville an accident clearing out of lanes. it's south 680 at el pintado. they are trying to get it to the shoulder. you have a 23-minute ride now as you work your way southbound from 24 down to 580. no delays though on that northbound side. looks like they are still clearing a vehicle fire northbound 85 from 101 to highway 17. you're going to see at least a 17-minute ride right around camden. it's over to the shoulder but a lot of activity still there on scene. so you have delays in both directions as you work your way through there. taking a look at conditions along through san mateo this earlier accident northbound 101 at 3rd has been cleared out of lanes. so we are still seeing some significant delays as you work your way out redwood city this morning on that northbound side passing 92. eases up okay towards san francisco. still a 30-minute ride though northbound 101, 92 to the 80 split. and if you are taking the san mateo bridge, so far, so good. 15 minutes between 880 and 101. >
