abc7 news reporter matt keller is at the at&t park. >> the father is speaking out saying his son was defending himself when he stabbed a dodgers fan a few blocks away at at&t park. police say they arrested 21-year-old michael montgomery for homicide in the stabbing death of 24-year-old jonathan denver wednesday night. the suspect's dad told the newspaper his son and their friends were hit without warning after words were exchanged of the giants and dodgers rivalry and says the son was hit by a chair in the head and defended himself. investigators say denver was with family and friends when they left in the 8th inning. san francisco police say montgomery left a bar. the groups were going back-and-forth about the rivalry. >> an initial fight and no one was seriously injured and that fight stopped and for whatever reason one or more of the parties would not let it go and there was a second altercation and the stabbing occurred. >> detectives are looking through video from cameras. police have another person in custody and are looking for two more suspects. security was heavy last night

matt keller is live with more. matt?e beyond the midway point for the 60 day cooling-off period and bart management and the unions have not come back to the bargaining table to negotiate the big should like salary and benefit. the two sides will be meeting to negotiate supplemental provisions. this week is the first time the two sides have met since governor brown called for a 60-day cool off period august 10. if in deal is reach another strike could begin october 11 and the governor would be power less to stop. bart riders are hoping another strike can be averted. >> it would be very disappointing, the last one was very stressful and not looking forward to another one. >> management and the unions appear to be far apart on raidses. management says they need to take into account the rising employee costs and replacement costs of aiming -- aging infrastructure. the union members say it would be a pay cut because of rising costs. the next meeting is on monday at 9:00 a.m. where they will talk about the economic provisions.

abc7 news reporter matt keller has the reason behind the new call. matt?starbucks is a lightning rod in the gun control debate. the company c.e.o. is asking this discussion be taken elsewhere. advocates have held starbucks appreciation day in the bay area and across the country in support of the coffee store policy of allowing customers to publicly show their unloaded gun in states where it is allowed. the c.e.o. says he doesn't want the events if his stores say it is upsetting and unsettling and says gun control advocates have played a role in ratcheting up the rhetoric and con fronting customers. he wrote an open letter and posted it on the starbucks website requesting customers no longer bring firearms into starbucks or the outdoor seating area. he said that for those who were oppose open carry, we believe the legislative and policy making process is a proper area for this debate, not our stores. if you champion open carry, please respect that starbuck stores are places where everyone should feel relaxed and comfortable. this is a request, not a policie

abc7 news reporter matt keller is at the supreme court in san francisco. oral arguments just finished up at the state supreme court. it was a plight but passionate debate over immigration policy. he hopes to practice in a courtroom but today, the lawyers are fighting on his behalf and they argue he should be able to get his license to practice law although he is an undocumented immigrant. >> this case raises the ever vital question whether there is or should be a rule regarding the blanket screening and rejection of bar applicants only on the basis of immigration status. he was first brought to the united states from mexico the 17 months and he worked his way through college and law school before passing the california bar exam on his first try. but he cannot on the practice until he get as law license but the committee overseeing the bar recommended he be granted membership but the final say goes to the california supreme court. it will decide if an undocumented immigrant can join the state bar. we caught up with him right after the hearing. >> it is a to

abc7 news reporter matt keller is at the fremont station. >> bart and officials will meet but ratherthey will focus on the small stuff. bart and the union are scheduled to meet to negotiate supplemental provisions. the big stuff -- salary and benefits -- are not going to be discussed until week. management said they need to take into account replacing of costs for parts and investment of expansion. unions say this is a pay cut and employees are forceed to pay more for health benefits. if no deal is reached another strike could begin october 11 and the governor will be powerless. bart riders want them to come to a deal because of the problems a strike creates for them on the commutes.
