kelli o'hara is in beverly tonight. kelli, he has quite a story to tell. >> oh, an amazing story. hard to believe. but it did happen. he said he had only had his private pilot's license for a few hours. only had gotten it recently. teaching people up in the air. all of a sudden, this emergency occurred. he was flying high over his beverly flight school on saturday, teaching one of his students. something went horribly wrong. >> a thousand, a thousand 50, i start hearing a noise. a sound like boom, boom, boom. engine not running smooth? i thought it was actually the engine. >> but it wasn't. the 0-year-old says one of the wheels from his landing gear somehow came off mid-flight. that is when his instincts kicked in. >> yes. everyone gets afraid. but getting afraid, it will make the situation worse. >> reporter: with prayers and a lot of practice up in the air, the 30-year-old got ready for the landing of his life. airport in the piper. he says he knew because one wheel was gone. he had to go slow and let the wind work for him. that is exactly what redid. you can see him approaching

the night team's kelli o'hara is live on the scene with the latest. kelli? >> reporter: that company says that they are cooperating with police. the driver has not been charged. as for investigators, they are still looking into what happened and why it happened. lined this area in boston after a party bus and person somehow collide. police say they got a 911 call around 2:00 a.m. with reports of two people hurt along this highway. by the time police arrived, one of the two develop victims was dead. the other hurt and rushed to the hospital. this road was shut down for hours trying to figure out how this tragedy occurred. you could see officers with flashlights the road. all pd will say is their investigation into what happened is ongoing. the bus company says we extend our deepest condolences of the families of the victims. we're cooperating with police and will provide officials with whatever they need to. our driver was questioned by police briefly before he was two decades of running, they've had a clean driving record. as for the ville, they are still at

kelli o'hara is live to with details on how this all happened. kelli? >> reporter: nicole, and that is the big question. how did this happen? boston police do con overnight here. just before the airport exit. they do tell us that 911 was called around 2:00 a.m. this morning. with someone calling for help, saying two people had been struck in the roadway. now, one person died immediately. the other one rushed to the hospital. no word as to how or why those victims were in the road or hit. details very unclear. we did reach out to the bus company, though. they did release a statement to the families and the victims. we are cooperating with boston police and providing officials with anything they need to investigate this tragic accident." our driver was questioned by boston police briefly for protocol before he was released and sent home. the company has not had any accidents and a clean driving record in their nearly two decades of running. still, though, many details are unclear. and again, one of those victims killed here. another one rushed to the hosp
