. >> and i'm ken wayne. police in concord are looking for at least two armed men who opened fire in the parking lot of the sun valley mall this morning. ktvu's christien kafton joins us live from the scene of the shooting. police are saying it's fortunate nobody was hit. >> reporter: yeah, it's very fortunate no one was hit. the incident happened around 10:50 this morning, so the parking lot was not as packed as it could be. this is the area we're talking about. imagine if the shooting were to take place now. very fortunate no one was injured or killed in this incident. tonight, police are looking for the shooters. 10:50 saturday morning, shoppers at sun valley mall in concord heard a series of gunshots. investigators aren't releasing a lot of details about the shooting, but do say there were at least two men firing back and forth at one another across this parking lot. the only casualties, three cars caught in the crossfire. edward ping came to the mall for shopping and lunch. >> i saw police along my car.

. >> and i'm ken wayne. dozens of businesses were targeted when last night's may day protest turned destructive. it's estimated vandals caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage. ktvu's christien kafton was in oakland all day, where the cleanup continues and where there was a new protest today with a decidedly different tone than the one last night. >> reporter: we are here in frank ogawa plaza, ground zero for last night's protest and also today's protest, focused on the message, not the mayhem. this afternoon, about 100 or so people showed up in front of city hall, using art to voice their opposition to police violence. >> we're making this with flowers and we have the names of individuals who have been killed by police. >> reporter: surrounding the plaza, dozens of oakland police officers watching the demonstration. >> we're here to facilitate that and make sure no outsiders come in, disrupt their message or freedom of speech. >> reporter: organizers say they don't want the message to be lost when

. >> reporter: good evening i'm ken wayne. >> and i'm heather holmes. what that man described is what many people felt when a 3.5 earthquake rattled the area. it was a biggest of three earthquakes that hit the area. the quake was originally reported a 4.0 but later reduced to a 3. 3.6. debora villalon has the story. >> reporter: these are all small earthquakes on the concord fault. going back more than 10 years. >> it's really one of the major actors in the bay area. >> reporter: seismologist david schwartz shows how concord's fault looks as active as the hayward fault. >> it's home to a will the of small earthquakes. most of which you don't feel. >> it was like a rattling. you know how when someone is doing construction. >> reporter: today's quake was felt by many. this mom arriving at target found an aisle taped off for the rest of the day out of concern ceiling tiles might fall. and her own job in walnut creek, they didn't know what to do. >> everybody was like, what do we do. and i said, let's think back to elementary school. >> reporter: right unde

. >> i'm ken wayne. >> and i'm heather holmes. they spun their wheels as part of a dangerous side show and it went on for several minutes without any officers on the scene. paul chambers is here now after asking opd questions about how they plan to respond to these street antics. >> >> reporter: side shows are pretty common in the city of oakland. they had 16 officers dedicated the monitoring clubs and areas where side shows are popular. there were several side shows in the city. when we called the police, they said they didn't have any record of it. however, when we listened to police radio traffic, they said otherwise. this was the scene just before midnight near the 880 northbound. in a video, you don't see any oakland officers. we asked police about the event. they said there was no record of it but the record proved otherwise. >> there are probably 30 to 40 vehicles out here and probably oh, 100 people. they are taking up the intersection. >> reporter: we only recorded four minutes of the side show, but the radio traffic last

. >> and i'm ken wayne. another whale in five weeks washed ashore. scientists along with everyone else is wondering what's going on. debora villalon is wondering what is going on with the rash of dead whales. >> reporter: it may just be these whales washed up in places we can see them instead of more remote spots. but experts are intrigued. park rangers on saturday found what has become a frequent sight lately. a dead whale. this one a young 28-foot gray washed up on portuguese beach between jenner and bodega bay. >> it seems we have a spike of mortality that we're seeing them wash up on various beaches. >> the fact we're seeing so many within such a short period of time and such a small geographic area is setting off alarms. >> reporter: last week a decaying gray whales was found rolling on the surf on half- moon bay. an adult female, 40 feet long. mendocino county got a stranded gray. this is the tail end of the gray whale migration. and they're health can be diminished by hunger. >> they have not fed since they left arctic waters. so they're worki
