shelters get more kennel cough than in the world. but this is a little bit of a concern.e don't usually see that. they have this loud dramatic cough that sounds like they are trying to clear their throat and that's one of the things that we worry about is, is there actually something in the throat? if they are fine in every other respect then we diagnose kennel cough as the problem and treatment, depending how much they are coughing can be anti- coughing medication and sometimes antibiotics if there's a virus and they might get a secondary bacterial infection. so if this dog has a discharge they need to be attended to. normally in serious cases we see more eye, nose discharge, more the cough. i should also mention that the length of time for the disease can be as small as two weeks to as long as six weeks. and it's highly contagious. so while the dogs are coughing, i usually tell owners to keep them inside and once they stop coughing 48 hours they can go back out. >> indigo weighed in, as well. thank you, indigo and dr. jill. if you have a question about your pet's health
