when i think of tahoe and snow, i think of kevin cooper. he's a resort consultant. your impressions of all that snow up there, it's got to be great. >> yeah, it's beautiful to see all this snow. big return from mother nature, about 115 inches. i was thinking maybe 40, 50 inches at the most. we've definitely seen over 115 inches at the summit. resorts are saying this is the wettest since 1970. a beautiful start to the season. with all this new mother's nature's natural, it's challenge, you just have to wait a little bit, and it will be awesome 2022. >> it is exactly what the resorts were hoping for. a little too much at one time, but i can't have everything. talk to me a little bit about avalanches, this is a serious concern for all the resorts. they've got to watch for them and know how to deal with it. >> absolutely. there's a book written many years ago called "the wall of white." the avalanche center reports every day at 7:00 a.m. the conditions are high above and below near tree line. tomorrow they look to be high again. we have another series of storms coming i

joining us now, kevin cooper, he is here and has dogs bella and thor with him as well. hard core dogs. coop, how's it look out there right now? what's going on? >> well, we're starting to see snow at upper elevations. we've seen snow all day, anywhere between 8800 feet and 9,000 feet. it's heavy, kind of what i call, i was skiing at north star today. it's kind of thick and easy gliding. that's what we needed to start the storm off up here. we need four or five inches of that. temperatures are dropping right now, and we're looking at several feet over the next 24-48 hours. here at the crest and down here at lake level. so we're looking for a great white christmas. the resort operations teams are really excited to welcome you all from the bay to ski here in tahoe for christmas day and new year's. >> it's a rough couple of years for tahoe, fires, all these problems, how long has it been since you've been this excited about ski season? >> well, i understand, you're absolutely correct. last winter we were skiing on man-made snow. this year so far, mother nature's coming in.

weather service is warning, the coldest weather to hit the area is expected to come this weekend kevin cooper been in tahoe for 29 years worked with all of the resorts including keeping an eye on the weather. coop, you've got your deck behind you how much snow is there at this point? have you ever seen anything like this >> that's a great question i'll tell you what, i have not seen it come down as consistently as this december. we just saw -- 1970 saw 179 inches we just saw 193 inches here in the last several days. it's still coming down we'll see a break thursday and friday forecast ahead is another series of systems good news for the water tables, great news for the ski resorts but a challenging time over the last 96 hours. roads have been closed we've had to work our way in and around the region. it's definitely been a challenge. >> here is the irony, coop i was just in big sky, montana there's a good amount of snow for skiing and then there's too much snow for skiing what is the situation for the resorts? huge economic boom for the community. are they going to try to reopen any time soon

tahoe area ski expert kevin cooper cooper. probably the most snow that i've seen in a single system in quite some time. we're talking over a decade. zach sauce, ktvu fox two news. and there was more snow this morning on some of the bay area's peaks. take a look at this time lapse of snow falling on mount hambleton in the south bay just about two hours ago, meteorologists say as much as a foot could fall there before this storm system moves on and another peaks above 4000 ft. with the cold temperatures, they can expect snow. there as well. yesterday about six inches of snow fell at the summit of mount hamilton's, which stands at more than 4200 ft. a lot of people decided to head up to the mountains peak to see it and experience it firsthand. which is just came on a feeling just just to be up here to you. we could catch something, but we catch more than we expected. just saw some snow on the mountain and decided to come show it to the kids. it was very , very nice. long drive. kids were happy. it was all over. this all calls how
