i'm kevin guy, director of the office of short-term rentals.'m here today to give the very update that was described. the status of our office and focus on the 2016 amendments to the short-term rental program and the associated settlement agreement with airbnb and home away. if i could get the powerpoint up on the screen, please. so, i think supervisor peskin hit a lot of these points. but just as a refresher, there were amendments that were enacted by the board in august of 2016 to ensure all hosts are properly registered. home away and airbnb filed suit in 2016 after four months of medation from january to april, we finally reached a settlement agreement with those platforms in may of 2017. so, i do want to echo the thanks very much to the city attorney's office and they've incredible diligent work in reaching that agreement. on a side note, following the adoption of the settlement agreement, the office of short-term rentals was okay with transitioning to an online format. in collaboration, we were able to launch our online application for ho

the second thing i wanted to report to you on, is really news from kevin guy the office of short-term rental director. there has been part of the settlement agreement with airbnb on the litigation, we have been in phases implementing the agreement that came about as a result of the litigation. the last phase was implemented last week at which point the agreement of course calls for anyone who is not registered to not have a posting on any of the websites. as of last week, 6,000 postings had been removed. not just from airbnb, but all the listing agencies. the really interesting news that kevin is working on, and his team, looking at units where they had had enforcement cases and some of those are appearing on the rental market. so he believes there has been an effect on making more units available in the market which is very good news. he's getting the data, but i wanted to let you know that information and publicly thank him and his team for the extraordinary work they've done to make this happen. thank you, that concludes my report. >> secretary: that is good news, thank you. commis

i just wanted to thank kevin guy and his office for their hard work in this settlement agreement. we think we have seen a lot of progress. it helps all the hosts because we are really looking for people who are supporting the law and supporting san francisco. we think we've seen a lot of good progress. i want to address the mayor's comments whether it is okay to host while your application is pending. what we're concerned about is people being penalized who have good intentions and it's a concern there. if the office of short-term rental had a service level agreement who could guarantee a return time on an application, it might have been agreeable to make hosts wait. but since there isn't, people could be waiting months to host when they are in compliance with the law. if there are any changes made there, we appreciate the policy and we think it has encouraged a lot of registration by good actors since they don't have to wait. we do know a lot of hosts that are waiting. they have gotten an application pending and for personal reasons they are waiting. people are self-selecting and
