that was not the case yesterday and we have this is a kpix 5 news morning update david lista -- kiet do live at the bridge . >> reporter: this is a beautiful site with cars moving at the limit through the fast track and the cash lanes. it is smooth sailing for now which is a big relief 14th of thousands of drivers that cross this bridge every day. it looks like caltrans is confident this temporary fix will hold for now. here is some footage from the drama yesterday. it began at 11 am when chunks of concrete help from the upper deck onto the lower deck damaging at least one car in the morning. caltrans shut down all but one lane of traffic while they looked into the problem, and by the afternoon more chunks of concrete started falling so they shut down the bridge completely through the evening commute. it was a brutal drive home even by the bay area standards. they were trying to drive to the north with highway 30 seven or to the south on the bay bridge sitting in traffic for hours. they have a temporary player -- repair with the metal plates and 8 pm all the lanes were back open. >> the

kiet do has more storm watch coverage from san jose. >> reporter: round 2 of the atmospheric river dodging another bullet. the rain and wind came down in sheets overnight quickly turning highway 9 into a hot mess. multiple fallen trees shutdown a 6-mile stretch of highway 9 from san bourne road to skyline boulevard. with the ground already saturated from wednesday's rain, another inch fell overnight in san jose. crews stationed at the alma avenue bridge watched as the river rose 8.5 feet in just 7 hours. with the flood from 2017 still fresh in their minds, the city took no chances and pushed out a cell phone alert at 4:30 a.m. urging hundreds of residents living along the river to evacuate. san jose police fanned out to knock on doors. >> you never know what is going to happen here. >> reporter: by 5:00 a.m. it appeared the river levels peaked at 16 feet. by 7:30 a.m. it dropped a foot lower. 9:30 and 10:30. neighbors charlene mellow was bombarded with warnings throughout the night. >> phones periodically dur the night, police at my door around 5:20 or so. so i didn't get a lot of street.

kpix 5's reporter kiet do is live on the scene with the latest. >> reporter: the homeowner was on his couch in his living room and a truck plows through the front of the house knocke m f n surved with a very dramatic story to tell. this all happened around midnight when antioch police were following or got in a chase with a pickup truck. the suspect turned down golden bear drive and plowed through the front of the house. the homeowner described what happened next. >> i slept on the sofa. but i didn't know anything and i heard a sound, a boom, and i thought somebody was shooting. and i ran up to the stairs. and i tried to open the door and it was stuck. and the cop told me to move away and he kicked it out. >> and the homeowner and his wife were not hurt. and the driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. the truck was reportedly stolen. and antioch police have not confirmed if it was a police pursuit. the house has been red tagged. >>> rain in the forecast this week will delay wrong term delays to the richmond san rafael bridge. last week the bridge was shut down

. >>> we have kpix 5 kiet do live at the richmond-san rafael bridge with the latest. >> reporter: we are live at the toll bridge in this is a sight for sore eyes in the north bay with gray lights giving the go- ahead to cross the bridge, a relief or tens of thousands of drivers that cross this bridge every day. it looks like confident the temporary fix will hold for now. here's a live look from the drama from yesterday. it began at 11 am yesterday when chunks of concrete fell from the upper deck onto the lower deck damaging at least one car in the morning. caltrans shut down all but one lane of traffic eastbound looking into the problem. by mid afternoon more chunks of concrete began to fall and they shut the bridge down completely for the evening commute, a brutal drive home even by bay area standards. people were trying to deter to the north, taking away 37 to the north and south, taking the bay bridge but sitting in traffic for hours. they did have a pl and8 pm all lanes reop. >> the short- termr.er ekend we will the xes for the bridge. >> reporter: caltrans has put in an emergenc

we have kiet do outside of novato with more on what is next for the area. >> reporter: right now you can see the road crews are working on highway 37. they have been here around the clock since last thursday. they were able to install temporary flood barriers. right now they're working on repaving the road. this started last thursday after strong storms and torrential rains hit marin county which called flooding along the low-lying areas. the levee at highway 30 seven gateway allowing millions of gallons of water from the novato creek to flood the low- lying fields near the highway and allowed the water from the bay to russia during the high tide. over the weekend marin county engineers and public works crews built the temporary dam to stop additional flooding. county managers said they have spent over $1 million already dealing with the damage from the storms last week. county supervisors will both this afternoon to ratify the state of emergency declaration. >> we have received a lot of storms over the last week. the cumulative impact is mudslides and three levee smack that were bre

we have kiet do live on how this unfolded. first and trimble road, one of the busiest intersections in san jose. it opened up a few hours ago and we have learned that the san jose police will go into great detail later today on what led to that shooting itself but for now here's what we know. it is the suspect, mark morasky, along rack sheet in 2012 for carjacking and two armed rafters -- armed robbers. they were in the suv, he and a woman, and they jumped out, carjack the ups truck. they took the ups driver hostage in the suspect drove the ups truck north on highway 87 into our location now. at some point during the chase mark morasky allegedly fired shots at officers hitting the patrol cars and that chase went on for eight miles and come to an end that first and trimble road after spike strips shredded the tires. within minutes they rested the female suspect in the ups driver was safely released but the suspect used to surrender. for over an hour mark morasky set in the ups truck making hand signals and talking on his phone.
