nbc's gina kim has the latest >> reporter: as far as the fire is concerned, it's been good news. there's been rain mixed in with a bit of wind, but the increase in humidity certainly helps. take a look like. this fire has not looked that good, even though we have whiffs of smoke, it's not looked that good all week long. we got word today that the 208 is heavier than anyone had ever thought. we have a minimum of 300 homes that have been destroyed. fire officials say that's just in one community. today at the media briefing, they said, look, we're going to try to get a grip on this fire today with a cooperation on the weather. on the other hand, in just one community we laos all these homes. we haven't even assessed the other communities. within the hour we should have an update on the extrusion that have been lost. now we have all these families in colorado springs with no homes to return to, and 32,000 people remain evacuated. we do not know when that will be lifted. >> a lot of people and homes. thank you, gina. >>> that certainly puts or weather in perspective. we complain abou

rachel kim has the story. >> reporter: rescuers signal to air-lift a hiker who fell 100 feet from the a waterfall in eaton cannon. >> we heard that there was a second waterfall, a little higher up that you have to hike up to. and we went up and it was great. >> reporter: he tells us, he and his 25-year-old girlfriend were hiking, exploring the two waterfalls. after taking in the second one, trouble. >> we were coming down. and there's not exactly -- the trail isn't really distinct. it's kind of hard to figure out how to get down. and we went the wrong way. so we kind of just went with it. and she slipped and fell. >> reporter: reese said he scrambled down as quickly and safely as he could. he finally reached his girlfriend. >> when i got down, she seemed pretty conscious. and she was answering all of the questions i asked her. >> reporter: rescuers arrived, hoisted up the woman, wrapped securely. she had scratches and complained of back pain. >> we have rescues probably three or four a month at this location. >> reporter: fire officials tell us this is a typical scene for them. 60 hik

jim brochin has now voiced his concern following statements made by pat mcdonough. kim dacey is live at city police headquarters with more on the story. good morning. >> just a couple of weeks ago, it was republican state delegate pat mcdonough who raised a red flag about safety at the inner harbor after a number of attacks by groups of young people. he does not agree with the racial overtones delegate mcdonough put forth, democratic state senator jim brochin from baltimore county agrees there is a problem downtown. he also agrees that state police should be brought in to help with security. the mayor's office refused to comment on the senator's concerns, instead referring us to the city police department. police claim that violent crime is down in the central district 14%. common assaults are running even with last year. they also say the mayor will be opening a new curfew center at school board headquarters next week, which should help. police insist they are doing what they can. >> these men and women are out there each and every day risking their lives for people th
