nbc bay area's kimberly terry has been with the story since the beginning and she joins us live froman francisco general hospital where the officer is recovering. kimberly. >> reporter: that's terry, that overs underwent several hours of vascular surgery yesterday, and police say he's now recovering here at san francisco general but is expected to be okay after being shot in the left shoulder area while making a traffic stop in the mission yesterday. >> officer shot. >> reporter: that is the emergency call made seconds after the officer was identified as adam shaw. a manhunt for the suspect began shortly after the shooting and they found the suspect's car in daly city but a search failed to show up any sign of him and very early this morning tips led them to a suspect and after a high-speed chase that led them to speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. 50-year-old jeffrey ruino of san francisco was arrested and charges guns ruano include assault with a deadly weapon and evading police. >> california highway patrol is pursuing that vehicle. i don't have information on speed or anythin

nbc bay area's kimberly tere has the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: that investigation is ongoing but as you mentioned that suspect is in the santa clara county jail booked on multiple counts of seattle with a deadly weapon and attempted murder of a peace officer. a resident on croy road called to report a suspicious car in the driveway. when confronted he sped down the driveway ramming his car into three patrol vehicles. >> at about 5:50 in the morning heard some gunshots. >> reporter: a deputy fired at least one shot. the car continued down the roadway until it crashed into the ravine and he took off. >> based on the information we had at the time we believed the suspect was armed and dangerous. so what we did is we did a reverse 911 to all the residents in the area advising them to stay in home and shelter in place. >> i was worried a little bit thachlts not normal. we just stayed inside and hoped for the best. >> reporter: the sheriff's emergency response team moved into the heavily wooded neighborhood. >> we were able to apprehend the suspect through that systematic s
