i'm kira klapper. vianey arana has a look at our microclimate forecast and hope you're warm inside right now. we had to crank up the defroster in our car. >> we did. you know what? it's going to be kind of the start of the frosty mornings, every morning you wake up, probably need to turn it on. especially the next couple days. look how beautiful the shot of downtown san jose looks. the tree beautifully lit up and temperatures now in san jose, 42 degrees. at least it's not windy. we're not getting the windchill factor but it's still pretty cold outside and over the next couple of hours notice an increase in temperatures. not by much. look at temperatures in the north bay. talking 30s on the map this morning. 34 degrees in santa rosa and 38 in napa and in through palo alto, portions of the peninsula dropping into chilly 30s. expecting mostly clear skies and afternoon temperatures creep up into the upper 50s, low 60s, but at least tracking a lot of sunshine. we are expecting these dry conditions to remain

i'm kira klapper. vianey arana has a look at our microclimate forecast. it looks gloomy out there and i saw a lot of rain on my drive in this morning. >> definitely, if you were driving overnight kind of when we come in early, right now the majority of the tri-valley and east bay is getting a lot of those showers that were pushing through overnight of the you can see on our satellite radar within the past couple of hours, this showcases how that rain pushes through portions of san francisco, but this is what our current satellite stormranger is looking like. you can see a couple showers in through san francisco, but heavy, heavy rain in through san ra rone and the livermore area. san jose right now taking a break from the rain but we've got light showers that push through palo alto, los gatos right now which means that line of shower you see could make its way over toward san jose, so still tracking those showers to remain on and off over the next couple of hours. i'll take you thorough that timeline a

i'm kira klapper. vianey arana has a look at that microclimate forecast for you. >> and that's exactly what it is, kira. our radar is already showcasing the pretty intense storm that we are tracking into the afternoon. right now in san francisco, it's about 57 degrees, so you're going to notice it's cloudy out there, but it's not pouring rain yet. look at the satellite radar. you can see all of that moisture. we caught that strong storm system coming in, and this is expected to sweep through in the form of heavy downpours, a chance for isolated thunderstorms and gusty conditions. that is also bringing a very large swell across the bay area coastline, which is why there is a high surf warning in effect through tomorrow. we're talking about dangerous waves. little bit closer in santa rosa, we saw light showers push into the north bay last night, and that's what we'll see early on this morning, and the time line is expected to get worse as we head into the afternoon. here is a look at what you can expect.

i'm kira klapper. vianey arana has a look at our microclimate forecast. >> wow, it really is the last weekend of 2018. >> yeah, weird. >> we're ready for a new year. >> yes. >> you saw there, we have a little bit more cloud cover out there, but it's not doing much in terms of keeping us warm this morning. we have areas of patchy clouds along the peninsula. 40 degrees in the south bay, 41 degrees in the peninsula. san francisco we have a little more cloud cover through that area, 48 degrees. however, you notice that it's a little bit warmer yesterday than we were at this hour yesterday. it's still cold in the north bay, though, 32 degrees up there, definitely still seeing a nice cold morning. temperature change 24 hours, you could see we're a few degrees warmer this morning, even though it's still cold, because our dew points are up, an increase in moisture that helps boost our overnight lows. the big story as we head into tonight is going to be the increase in those winds. wind advisory has been issued

i'm kira klapper. forecast and we're under a microclimate weather alert. >> we are. we're already seeing that storm churning just off the coast, so much so that it's bringing showers into portions of the north bay. in san francisco, it's about 57 degrees and take a look at how this storm system looks on satellite radar. you could see it's spinning right there. you could see the moisture just off to the north. when you zoom in closer, you get a better idea of what we're starting to see, some of the light rain pushing through, santa rosa, antioch seeing spotty rain. don't get tricked. don't think this is the only rain we'll see. we're expecting the heavy rain to trickle on in into the mid morning and really come pounding down right about 3:00, we expect that line of heavy rain to push through, with the possibility of seeing some forming thunderstorms as well. so there is a chance of isolated thunderstorms, locally gusty conditions, upwards of 30 plus miles per hour and we're tracking the waves, hazardous

i'm kira klapper. vianey arana has a look at our microclimate forecast. yesterday was cold but beautiful. >> definitely. it's going to be another one of those days. notice behind us, the fog is rolling through san francisco. we have dense fog, so much so there's a dense fog advisory that will include san francisco through 11:00 a.m. 48 degrees right now. this is a live look, the camera that was behind us. the current temperatures in the 30s and the 40s right now. 39 degrees in palo alto. santa rosa 37. low 40s, but take a look at the fog and visibility. so the number that you're seeing there pretty much tells you the distance in terms of visibility. so concord down to about a quarter of a mile ahead of you. that gives you an idea of how much you could see in front of you. livermore pretty much down to nothing. oakland seven miles, san francisco four and santa rosa down to about half a mile. remember, do not turn on your high beams. keep on your regular lights and make sure to slow it down a little bit

and i )m kira klapper in for laura garcia. that officer-involved shooting unfolded not too far from san jose city college. it )s a story we brought to you as breaking news all morning long. nbc bay area )s bob redell is live on the scene where he just spoke to a witness, bob ? this was around 2:30 this morning. we just spoke to the woman who shot that the suspect crashed into the fence by the school playground and collided with an officer squad car. she says another squad car arrived to sandwich the suspect vehicle between the two police units. she tells us two officers were outside their vehicles yelling commands at the suspects, something we could hear on her video. she says the officers opened fire when the suspect reversed, pulled forward and hit at least one of the cop cars in the process. >> at first, if you hear the video that i had, i was laughing, because i thought that was funny, you know, because i'm like this idiot is trapped, he's not going anywhere. you know, they had him. they sandwiched the vehicle. and they ju
