a >> i am kira klapper. laura garcia has the morning off. >>> another community following deadly mass shooting. gunfire erupted in highland park illinois. >> six people were killed and another 38 injured. a person of interest in custody. aubrey jackson is in washington with the latest. the shooting is just the latest in a series of deadly mass shootings within months. >> reporter: unfortunately, that is right. this is the third major mass shooting in the u.s. since may. it comes after president biden signed into law the most sweeping legislation in preventing gun violence in 30 years. a horrific scene in highland park, illinois. people scrambling for safety after a gunman on top of a building opened fired on crowds gathered for the fourth of july parade. he killed at least six people and injured dozens more. >> our community was terrorized by an act of violence that has shaken us to our core. >> someone destroyed countless lives. the community was shattered. a lot of people are grieving. it will be a long ti

i'm kira klapper. rob mayeda is in and joins with us a look at the micro climate forecast. i did see mist on the drive in. >> bundling up. san jose a little more sunshine. waking up to the comfortable 50s. there is another view of san francisco. 53. misty skies over downtown. by lunchtime around the inland east bay starting to see numbers in the 70s and 80s inland. the warmest places are livermore to fairfield mid-90s. a different story around the oak fire. the weather update this morning shows a wildfire behaving like a thunderstorm. this is a hot burning area. we did see that on the satellite view. a lot of ash being carried down wind. this fire is not getting a break from the weather. 70s for lows around the fire lines. dry conditions later on this afternoon. temperatures are climbing into the upper 80s. we will talk about the smoke impact from the oak fire on the bay area air quality in 10 minutes. back to you. >> thanks, rob. >>> that's where we begin near yosemite as fast moving flames from the oak fire are racing toward homes and showing no signs of slowing down. the

i am kira klapper.out of stanford shows we need to do more to protect bay area residents from all the smoke. when smoke clogs are skies, lick we have seen in recent years, the bay area air quality management district suggest to stay inside, close all windows and doors and consider buying an air purifier. the new study found that advice is not much help for economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. everyone in the study cared about air quality but how much they could do to respond to poor air quality was largely tied to income. >> we see people using tracking data to help them change their movement patterns in response to wildfire smoke. >> they recommend counties look at opening more clean-air centers and subsidizing the cost of air purifiers in the short term. the bay area air district says they are trying to do just that. in the past year, they say they have handed out 12 air purifiers -- 1200 air purifiers to residents and are hoping to expand that program and are working with the state to open more

i am kira klapper.g a big traffic problem in the north bay. >> reporter: every just got word though that we only got one lane block. the second theory, so 101 is just about the seminary drive offramp there. you can get off of the roadway and to almonte. that is maybe not necessary as again, they had four of the five lanes open. they are south of the richmond center bridge. some folks may be going east and jamming up the short free. >> i am in san jose where illegal fireworks are believed to be responsible for the significant damage to the home behind me. it is believed the car caught fire first and then spread to the garage inside of the home. this isn't the only fire that is believed to be caused from an illegal fireworks. on lynbrook drive in pittsburgh, the family got out safely, but they feared the home is a total loss. they said they responded to about 30 fires last night, nine of which are caused by fireworks. >> let's check in with meteorologist with the forecast. yes, it is another cloudy sky ri
