ellen pao suing her former employer, the legendary venture capital firm kleiner perkins. the jury found for kleiner on all counts and rejected pao's claims of gender discrimination and retaliation. but does this case set back the rights of women in the workplace? i talked to a partner and kleiner's defense attorney in this case. this is her first interview since the verdict. lynn: great to be done. it's great to be back in my office. great for kleiner to have prevailed on everything. cory: did you have a sense during the trial of how much it was being followed? the jurors were stunned when they walked out and saw all the cameras there. lynn: it was overwhelming. just a tidal wave of reporters. occasionally people would post tweets on my facebook page or email me. i followed a few people but i didn't have a sense of the whole scope of it until the end. cory: what made this case unusual? it's got an unusual amount of coverage. an unusual amount of -- it was supposedly having an unusual impact on silicon valley. lynn: it's not going to happen. cases don't change industries. t

great for kleiner perkins to prevail on everything. the jurors were stunned when they saw all of the cameras. lynne: just a tidal wave of reporters, overwhelming. occasionally, people would tweet or e-mail me. cory: what made this case unusual? lynne: cases don't change industries, not what they are about. this case was the right issue at the right time, wrong case wrong forum. a very hot issue in silicon valley and people feel passionately about it. the media coverage made everything different. you could hear comments in the audience. the jurors were distracted by the clacking of the keyboards. cameras in your faces. cory: did that help you? lynne: it is a distraction you have to look beyond. you are always worried, what is the press reporting and if the jurors are reading it? this jury seemed to be very careful about following the judge's admonitions. cory: i heard you were very aware of what the jury is doing all moments in the courtroom. lynne: you have to watch the jury and you have to see if they are having a bad reaction to you.

a word that was literally came up in the kleiner perkins trial. and that asian american women walk a very, very narrow tight rope between being seen as too feminine to be competent, too passive, too quiet, she was called. but also too masculine to be likeable. she was called both passive and demanding. that's a pretty narrow tight rope. and this is really a gender training to the world. so i think it has changed the conversation in a permanent way. cory: we'll be right back. ♪ cory: this is the best of "bloomberg west." i'm cory johnson. indiana's so-called religious freadm law has become a huge issue in the technology and business industry. after the law tech companies spoke out in protest. more than a dozen tech leaders signing a letter calling for more protections for lgbt people. sales force is limiting employee travel to the state as are some city and state governments. cloud era pulled out of a big data conference. i spoke with mike olson just hours after indiana governor mike pence vowed to fix the law. to prohibit discrimination. >> i thin

and shouldn't this indicate that kleiner perkins did nothing wrong?is is the case they would be found liable. you know that better than me. one decision by a jury does not necessarily mean it is not inappropriate behavior. maybe this is not the case that is going to take us to that level. but there is going to be a case. there is no question there is gender diversity in silicon valley. i spent about a month ago a week out there doing diversity and inclusion events. everything from having meetings with the big once, the googles and the intels. liz: are they trying? what are they doing? >> absolutely trying. in break we were chath about what happens to the young girl who automatically think they're not good in math. liz: they don't become engineers. >> they don't become engineers. why should the companies be expected to scrutinize and find what isn't perhaps there. i want my kid want to be an engineer. >> the cool thing as it relates to google, they're starting way back in the two and three-year-olds. they're saying we're going to partner with disney or
