you've been listening to knbc. that's our affiliate out of los angeles, listening to a photographer from knbc describing the transport of victims, what he saw unfold over the last hour or two. this is an active shooter situation that we're monitoring in san bernardino, california. details still just coming in so we don't know a lot about how many people were injured. we have certainly seen video images of multiple victims. at this location. it's known as the inland regional center. it's in san bernardino, california. we heard him talking about helicopters landing and transporting to other locations. i want to go out to los angeles, blake mccoy has been monitoring this in our los angeles bureau. blake? >> kate, we are trying to learn more about this inland regional center where the shooting takes place. provides services for the disabled and people with developmental issues. according to their facebook page, there's 670 employees at that building so that gives you a size of the facility we are talking about and how

. >> you've been listening to coverage from our affiliate knbc. we have been covering for the past four and a half hours or so here live coverage of the situation unfolding. what you're looking at are live pictures of what appear to be a standoff. there was a shooting earlier in the day at the inland regional center. we were told by officers there were three shooters who came in with a purpose and we're also told they were looking for a dark suv. you can see a dark suv on your screen. we were told by the police, they cannot confirm that it is the suspects. that's what we just heard in a press conference, that those suspects are in that vehicle, but they weren't saying that they weren't either. we know there were reports of multiple shots fired involving this vehicle. we are told it's possible that one suspect may be down. there has been a lot of talk of rapid fire shots and witnesses saying they heard a flurry of shots, saw three men with long guns and masks. so what we're trying to do is get you some further detail right now on the situation that

but a few miles away is where you are looking at the live picture from our local affiliate knbc here in los angeles. we heard from a press conference a short time ago that police did engage in a gun battle with a suspect suv. the gun battle lasted a couple of seconds, possibly longer as offered responded. officers tell us it appears the suspect has been hit with the police officer has not been injured. police were looking they may have found one suspect as the search for two more suspects continues. meantime, lester, back here at our location, just a few blocks behind us. police tell us three gunman entered a building and simply started open firing. these were still pictures taken from the helicopter, the knbc helicopter, just to look more closely. this is a side picture of the vehicle. you could see that the front window -- the front door, which is open, the window of it is catching the light. you could see that it has been virtually blown out. so that is just a little closer view. this is from overhead. you could see the bullet marks on the windshield. police tell us that they were firing at the vehicle as well as the people inside firing back at the vehicle. so this just gives you a better idea of the very active exchange of gunfire. and it appears that the rear window is the one that the gunman -- that we were told that the gunmen were firing from. so the rear window is appears to be shot out entirely if not the frame around the window as well on this suv, lester. >> do we know who these individuals are, pete? >> not yet. still waiting for information about that. i think that that will start to come in here shortly because they've got one -- one of them is dead. they'll immediately begin to -- as much as they can approach th

alex vasquez is a camera operator for knbc. he's been on the scene all day. he joins us now. where are you now? >> i'm at the command post where they're basically holding news conferences about every hour and a half. we're awaiting some new information to be given to us about 10:00 our time. they're going to hopefully reveal more about the suspects involved in this horrific situation. >> and you were there for some of the evacuation of this center, capturing some of the very early video of what happened there. how confusing of a scene was it to arrive at? >> well, it was absolutely chaotic. when i got here, i parked the van. i heard three gunshots. and then i was talking about a block and a half away from the actual building. i heard people -- by the time i ran up,there i saw a lot of people running from the building, screaming, yelling for help. as a journalist it's tough because you try to separate yourself from the story, stay neutral and professional but i had no choice but to try to help as far as lending people my home so i could let them call their families and friends

you can't see it from this aerial picture, but some pictures that were taken this morning by our knbc helicopter out there showed what looked to us like a utah license plate on the car, which led us to wonder if the car was rented. law enforcement officials tell us that is the case, that the rental, the car had been rented just -- there, that's the picture i'm talking about. if you can take the banner down and back it up, you will see, we will come back to it in just a second, i think. there it is. that's a utah license plate. well, good luck on pressing the freeze frame button. that's a utah plate. so that's made us wonder if in fact the car was rented and we have been told yes, it was, it was rented recently. this was part of their preparation. a second thing that they will look at is -- there, you see it quite clearly. there's sort of an arch on the utah plate and that's what it is there. thank you for that. the second thing they will look at is as they try to figure out what the motivation here is, one thing is the possibility of terror inspiration and that's -- they're looking at

alex vazquez is the camera operator for knbc, he's been on the scene all day, he joins us now by phoneex, where are you now? what is the situation there now? >> well, right now i'm at the command post where they're basically holding news conferences, about every hour and a half. and we're awaiting some new information to be given to us at about 10:00 our time here. they're going to hopefully reveal a little bit more about the suspects involved in this horrific situation. >> and, alex, you were there for some of the evacuation of this center, capturing some of the very early video of what happened there. how confusing a scene was it to arrive at? >> well, it was absolutely chaotic, best word to give you. when i got here, i grabbed my camera and just heard gunshots. i heard three gunshots, then i was about a block and a half away from the actual buildings. and i saw people by the time i ran up there, i saw a lot of people running from the building, screaming, yelling. for help. and i -- you know as a journalist, it's tough because you try to separate yourself from the story. and you try

one of victims' sister spoke with knbc and we'll hear from her in a minute. first dr. sanjay gupta outside one of the hospitals this morning. what can you tole us? >> w we know here at arrow head medical facility there are 16 patients being treated here. we're hoping to get an update a little later on. there is another hospital, another trauma center not too far. low melinda. this is going to be ongoing for some time. these are significant injuries as you know. and i want to put a punctuation mark on something you were talking about with regard to law enforcement. some of the first responders that go in have to go in to a situation that is still active. in years past they would go into a cold air first and be taken in and it's challenging to do that. it costs too much times sometimes. so law enforcement also many times escorting first responders into these situations so they can take care of the injured. it is remarkable work. id happened with some of the people in the hospital here behind me at the same time. also denise peraza, her sister, spoke about what happened t
