komen says this has been good for them as well. they're reporting a donation increase of 100% in just the past day. still, though, komen is indeed getting a lot of heat for its decision. we're talking hate mail, a resignation in that organization and now congress is joining in on the fight. 26 democratic senators sent a letter to komen saying in part, more than 90% of the services provided by planted parenthood are primary and preventive, including wellness exams and cancer screenings that save lives. it would be tragic if any woman, let alone thousands of women lost access to these potentially life saving screenings because of a politically motivated attack. >> regrettably this strategic shift will affect any number of long-standing partners but we have always done what is right for our organization, for our donors and volunteers. >> i think their collaboration with planned parenthood if that's the word, whatever the connection was is one that benefited women's health and i feel sad that this decision on their part is to the detri

komen's race is for the cure. they raised $271 million last year to advance breast cancer awareness, but today many angry women on twitter and the radio vowed their komen racing days are over. >> we are really upset by this decision, and we're not going to do the komen race any more. >> i changed my mind and sent the money elsewhere. >> reporter: komen announced it's stopping all new grants to planned parenthood because of a new policy that prohibits funding of groups under investigation. planned parenthood is being investigated by a congressional committee controlled by republicans. planned parenthood ceo called the decision political and disappointing. >> the komen foundation has been the target of a right wing political campaign, bullying them and unfortunately the results seem to be they gave into it. >> reporter: not long ago, komen hired a new vice president, karen handel, a former republican gubernatorial candidate endorsed by sarah palin, who strongly opposed abortion and vowed to defund planned parenthood

then there's karen handell, komen's senior vice president for public policy. of georgia in 2010 on an anti-abortion platform. she describes herself as a pro-life christian and said, quote, i do not support the mission of planned parenthood. after the explosion of outrage, handel retweeted this quote. just like a pro-abortion group to turn a cancer organization's decision into a political bomb to throw. cry me a freaking river, end of quote. she has since deleted that tweet. but take a look at her twitter bio. it says life long conservative republican. brinker says they're not bowing to political pressure but the atlantic reports three sources with direct knowledge of the komen decision-making process told me that the rules were adopted in order to create an excuse to cut off planned parenthood. the case building against them is strong and is disturbing. joining me now is congresswoman gwen moore of wisconsin. congresswoman, thanks for your time tonight. >> oh, so good to be with you here, reverend. >> komen says this was not a political decision. what do you t
