i'm liz kreutz. the number of coronavirus cases in california surpassed 4,600 with 122 deaths. 00 cases with 46 deaths across the region. almost every bay area county confirmed new cases today. santa clara county recorded five deaths in a 24-hour span the most in a single day since this outbreak started. >>> let's get a check of the weather with lisa argen. >> hey, liz, good morning to you. a live look at doppler 7, waves of showers will move across the bay area this morning. there is a look at the north bay, inverness, penn grove. san mateo and hayward looking at a few showers and the south bay quite scattered right now, but we'll look for the rain for the first half of the day and then the afternoon trending drier, partly cloudy skies. mid-50s to near 60, and then maybe a chance of showers early tomorrow north bay. thanks for joining hi. what are you working on? i've got a 6, 8 and 13 year old. and it's... . >> and i'm liz kreutz. a lot to get to.rnor newsom said california has tested nearly 60,000 people. nearly 2500 have tested positive and over half the cases are people between the ages of 18 and 49. today we learned public schools in six bay area counties will remain closed until at least may 4th. senate leaders and white house officials reached a deal on a $2 trillion relief package. but now a vote is up in the air because of some lawmakers' concerns. president trump talked what the bill contains in a news conference less than an hour ago.

. >> and i'm liz kreutz.the latest local news on the coronavirus pandemic. >> san francisco's mayor has sent letters to governor newsom and vice president pence asking for at least 1500 ventilators and 5,000 more hospital beds. >> the city's laguna honda hospital is under lockdow after several workers tested positive for coronavirus. >> six bay area counties announced their schools will not reopen until at least monday, may 4th. >> bart continues to see a huge drop in ridership, down 92% from yesterday from an average tuesday. >> and some east bay regional parks will be closed starting friday to eliminate overcrowd, including del val and castle rock. >> across the bay area, five more people died since yesterday from the coronavirus. four of those cases are in san mateo county, which now has a total of five deaths and 165 cases. santa clara county also reports another deadly infection with 17 deaths. there are now a total of 1194 cases in the bay area. and there are two confirmed cases of coronavirus in mendoc
