kris anderson has more. report t biggest development today is that french investigators believe they have now identified the mastermind behind the horrific attacks in paris late last week. he is known to have links to other terroristic attempts, including the attack on the train in france that was thwarted by u.s. heroes. meantime, president obama is, again, pledging support to france and pledging to destroy isis. this is the man who french authorities say is the mastermind behind a series of deadly attacks in paris on friday. his name? abdelhamid abaaoud. a 27-year-old from belgium who has previous ties to terroristic activity. he is believed to be in syria where he is considered one of isis' most active excusers. across france and belgium today, the hunt continues for other accomplices involved in the paris attacks. two small explosions were heard in brussels as masked and heavily armed officials sealed off the area. >> isil is the face of evil. our goal, as i have said many times, is to degrade and ultima

kris anderson joins us from the control room with the very latest. >> chris:... security remains tight across brussels. the terror alert is high now after warnings of a paris-style attack. 16 people are behind bars after nearly two dozen raids took place sunday alone. they found no firearms or explosives during those raids, but one suspect was hurt. when a car he was in tried to ram police while attempting to get away. police say the only paris attacker still at large was not found during those raids. he is a 26-year-old salah abdeslam. he is believed to still be in belgium. police think he played a key role in the attacks. brussels is under the highest threat level again. belgium's prime minister, in fact, closed subways and schools today. he is asking everyone to stay at home. a chilling moment there. you hear the gun five inside of the bataclan concert hall. we are hearing from two members of the band that was on stage playing during the deadliest of paris' massacres there. the american rock band eagles of death metal was at the concert hall that night. >> sev

kris anderson is following all those developments for us overnight. >> reporter: president franc ois hollande called on the u.s. and russia to work together in the quest to defeat isis. we're learning more about the man behind the attack in france and the newest threat to isis -- the united states. the hunt is on for two men, one believed to be the mastermind behind friday's massacre in paris, the other, the lone surviving attacker. 27-year-old abdelhamid abaaoud planned the attacks. he's from belgium and believed to be in syria. salah abdeslam is on the run this morning. authorities in belgium stopped him at a checkpoint a couple hours after the attacks but they let him go because he had no criminal record. his brother was one of the men who died in friday's attacks. now isis has released a video online threatening to attack the united states, specifically washington, d.c. president obama says the u.s. will not change its isis strategy or put troops in syria. >> the strategy we're putting forward is the strategy that ultimately is going to work. >> in a sitdown meeting president oba

kris anderson following that story. >> a lot of developments this morning. this newest development came down in the past half hour. metro jet officials say there wasn't a single attempt by the crew to call air-traffic control and that the crew was incapacitated in the moments the flight took the tragic turn. those officials also ruled out technical or human errors for the crash saying that it had been to be an external influence that caused the crash. that fuels speculation the plane was either blown out of the air or shot down. the black boxes have been recovered. they're in good shape so hopefully they can provide more clues as to what happened. russia has started a heartbreaking task of bringing home the bodies of t ose victims in the plane that crashed in egypt. the bodies of 144 passengers arrived at st. petersburg airport in russia. russian news agencies report the government will send a second plane to bring back more remains later today. all 224 people onboard, including 17 children, were killed when that plane crashed live in the newsroom, kris ande

let's go to kris anderson. kris, you have some numbers to show us. the numbers look good for hillary clinton. she's increasing her lead over bernie sanders but does face some other challenges. according to this new nbc news "wall street journal" poll clinton is now ahead by a 2-1 margin over sanders, 62-31%. former maryland governor martin o'malley a disstand third picking up 3%. news not all good for hillary clinton. fewer than one third of those surveyed give her high marks for being honest and straight forward. the next democratic debate scheduled for week from saturday. we'll get to hear from all three candidates. let's switch over to the republican side. same poll find ben carson surging into the lead. carson 29% is followed by trump at 23%. marco rubio, ted cruz and jeb bush round out your top five. bush with 8% of the vote. that's a switch from earlier last month when donald trumps in the lead. this second major poll in the past several days that shows ben carson moving up past donald trump. the latest live in the control room. 7news "today in

kris anderson has the very latest. >> reporter: the judge says the former babysitter may not be fit to stand trial. two bailiffs had to hold her up in court. a court psychologist says she tried to interview her but she sat on the ground nodding yes or no and shows multiple psychotic symptoms. she's charged with kidnapping and assaulting the two-year-old girl she was once caring for. lyndon albers's parents reported her missing friday. according to a search warrant they told police about hanna right away saying they recently fired her as a babysitter. hours later a couple found her near the side of the road naked with cigarette burns and had her head shaved. when they interviewed hanna she said she didn't know the family. she had dirt on her face and a twig in her hair. police found dirty baby clothing in a pillowcase in her home. she's undergoing a psychiatric evaluation and will be court next month. >> christa: thank you. more than $75,000 has been donated on a gofundme page to help rebuild an animal shelter after a fire destroyed that building. dozens of dogs and cats sadly died in t
