kris anderson the following the investigation and joining us now with more. kris? >> still a lot of questions that need to be answered. officials at the civil aviation authority say so far they have found no evidence that there's blast that was onboard that plane. the pilot said he thought it was a bomb. but he was still able to get that plane safely back on the ground. terrifying moment after an explosion rocked a plane midair in somalia. the blast ripped a hole in the side of the plane as it was flying 12 to 14,000 feet in air. passengers heard a loud explosion and you can see the air mass came out as passenger tried to move away from gaping hole. somehow the pilots able to fly the plane back to somalia airport. the blast injured two people. investigator say the first test did come back positive for explosive residue. the plane now back in somalia as the investigation into how this happened continues. this morning cnn reporting one person was killed when they fell out of the plane right after that explosion. but again the pilot able to land safely saving the live

kris anderson noting that it flipped over to snow in lexington that. will work toward the city of boston and eventually down the south shore. we have snow back through metro west and the worcester hills. the snow continues all the way so if you have travel plans out of boston heading toward metro new york through hartford and waterbury, it's going to be a slow go down there, as well. for them the storm peels out of there faster than us. where is that system? it's coming off the outer banks of north carolina. this will scoot east of the cape during the day. in doing so, it will allow the rain the change over the snow. so boston right now at 37. norwood 37. plymouth at 39. even when the changeover happens, i still think the temp in the city will be about 34, 35. that will slow down accumulating snow, but with time the snow will start to come down at a greater intensity, which will drag the cold air out of the cloud and begin to overwhelm the ground with accumulating snow. at that time, that's when travel conditions will become quite poor. so you have a s

kris anderson is live in weston morning. i'm guessing they're busy even right now before the storm hits, >> kris: didn't we just do this, christa and sarah, a few days ago? again. they're right back at it over here. in fact, there was a giant blow truck getting filled with salt. these front loaders scooping up all of the salt you see at the loading it in. in fact, stephen davis, my photog will show you the big trucks over here waiting full of salt ready to get out on the roadways once the snow moves into our area. there's also these big barrels of the magnesium chloride they treat the roadways with. they pretreat them, lay it down to keep the ice and snow from sticking as best it. can but with the high volume of snow that's expected, it's going to be a tough task here. boston city schools are closed for the second straight day. they were all closed on friday. most of the schools in the area are closed. check before you wake the kiddos up. they probably have another snow day in store with all of that snow moving. in as far as

good morning, i'm jennifer eagan. >> and i'm kris anderson. the big chill has us flirting with not just cold temperatures, potentially record low temperatures. the weather can be dangerous. obviously state and other emergency dress in layers if you do indeed have to get out. better to stay indoors, though. >> let's get over to meteorologist rob eicher for just how drastic drop we're going to see. >> we're talking wind chill -ins order of 20 to 30 below zero. at that temperature it only takes 10 minutes to get frostbite. wind chill warnings for most of us from this afternoon through the morning hours on sunday. the exception is the satisfy coast, the cape -- sea coast. it won't be quite as cold there, but still talking dangerous cold just about everywhere late tonight into tomorrow. right now 21 in boston with enough of a wind to make it feel like 8 degrees. believe it or not. it is warmer now than it will be in the afternoon hours. colder air is scrubbing in and as that cold air returns in, not out of the question we could see a flurry or two

i'm kris anderson. i'm nancy channel 7. you know we started the show at a negative 8 degrees. >> at this point rob we're waiting for it to hit zero and we'll celebrate. topics compared to what we had out from this morning. these are the actual temperatures. 9 below in boston. 6 below in worcester. those are the coldest seen in either location since 1957. nantucket got below zero. first time they've seen sub zero since 2004. here's the current numbers. about 4 degrees or 5 degrees warmer in boston and nantucket now 3 degrees warmer. so it's a little bit better than it was this morning. wind chills still incredible on the order of 20 to 30 below zero. that also a little better than it was a couple of hours ago. but still attentionly cold. the strong winds leading to a few ocean effect snow snow showers for the outer cape. that should calm down. afternoon highs, 7, 10, maybe 13 degrees above zero in some spots and that's there. that's as warm as it gets, but at least the wind will be a lot calmer this afternoon. we have a chan

let's send it to 7's kris anderson. he's live in weston at the salt pile. i'm sure it's been busy all morning long there, kris. >> kris: sarah, it has been. crews have been moving in and out. in fact, a truck just pulled out seconds ago. these front loaders are loading of salt and road treatment so they can get out and get these roads treated ahead of the snow, which hasn't arrived yet. i want to tell you, the temperature is dropping and the winds are increasing. take a look at these flags here. you can see how hard these winds are blowing right now. and in the distance, just below the flag, we see these trucks. they filled up with all of the salt so they can get out on the roadways. massachusetts has up to 4,000 trucks and pieces of equipment on stand-by to treat the roadways as that snow continues to move in. all morning long, we've seen these trucks moving in. the front loaders will fill them up with the salt so they can get out there. school closures, boston is closed. most places in the area, no school for the second straight day because they were close

let's check in with 7's kris anderson with more. kris, good morning? >> kris: good morning, christa. i get to be the bearer of bad news for the thousands of children in the city of boston and the vowrding community. it's back to school today after that extended four-day weekend thanks to two snow days, one on friday and then, of course, one yesterday. so what that means is it's back to work. this gentleman here has been actually scraping the sidewalks at condon elementary school in south boston this morning. we have some video of the busses that were rolling out from the bus yard this morning. buses hitting the road for the first time in four days now. most of the roads are cleared and that's good news for students who are heading back to class today because they got to enjoy that four-day break. now there's another issue that we need the talk about this morning, and that's space savers. the city of boston, and that means if you put a space saver out there, it's going to be taken away. >> we are not having space savers in the city of boston. there is n
