kristy siefken with what we can expect for this chilly weekend. it's kind of a shocker! >> we've been so used to the warm weather, even a few days ago relatively warmer temperatures than what we're seeing now. definitely a cold start to the morning. we really saw temperatures drop into the overnight hours. take a look at this reading in santa rosa last night, 46 degrees. so cold outside, puppies need jackets. it's the same story for you as you head out this morning. cold conditions. crank the heater up, and we'll see wet weather in our forecast in addition to chilly conditions. that moisture, you can see coming from the north, dropping down originally from the gulf of alaska, now sitting in the pacific northwest. that's going to bring us light showers into the afternoon. we'll time that out a little later in the he show. i want you to take a look at temperatures right now. napa at 38 degrees. 44 for oakland. san jose, only at 45. fairfield at 44 right now. in the sierras, this cold weather, plus moisture means we're seeing snow today, as much as 9 inches above 4000 feet.

good afternoon, kristy. >> reporter: good afternoon, grace and frank.e're just a couple of blocks away from the rock ridge shopping area. you can see over my shoulder, they are cutting away. pg&e has been here for over an hour, trimming branches off this 100-foot tall eucalyptus tree. this tree has caused power outages in past years, so they are taking care of dangling limbs over the power lines. it's just one of several trees that will be trimmed today in preparation for that big wind storm that's expected to hit tomorrow. the storm we should see in the early morning hours and we'll see gusts about 20 to 40 miles an hour -- excuse me, winds up to 20 to 40 miles an hour, with gusts over 55 miles an hour. in the hills, we could see gusts as high as 70 miles an hour. now, most of the residents i spoke to in this east bay neighborhood said that they were very happy to see pg&e out here today, trimming the trees that line their sidewalk. in fact, several of them said they have seen strong wind storms like the one we'll see tomorrow cause some real havoc on

kristy seifkin is at the golden gate bridge. can we see you? >> reporter: that was my question for you. you guys are used to asking the questions but i wonder, that's how dense the fog is out here. in fact, as we look at the golden gate bridge, just over my shoulder, we are at the toll plaza but you can't even make out the top of the bridge behind us. that's how dense this fog is. coming into the city this morning people were driving 5 to 10 miles per hour. that's how slow you had to drive to even see safely in front of you. the national weather service has issued a dense fog advisory that started last night. and that will stay in effect until 9 a.m. this morning. visibilities are only a quarter mile in many locations. zero visibility in some spots. we saw similar fog yesterday morning and if you are trying to send some out of town thanksgiving visitors back home. there were delays at the area airports. it will likely be a repeat today. expect airport delays. several advisories in effect for the bridges. elizabeth will talk more with that. havi

. >> kristy siefkin is standing by at snow park. but we begin with anne makovec at the plaza where protesters have ignored repeated warnings to get out. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. there about 500 people as best as i can count on frank aga with wa plaza, blocking the intersection. a lot of folks wearing masks and some wearing goggles and some carrying shields and others waiting around and waiting to see what will happen. they have been crowded for several hours at 1th and broadway waiting for police after police were rumored to be showing up in the early morning hours. there is no sign of them. but a half hour ago, we saw that vehicle pull up here at 14th and franklin. and they are also staged all around the square right now. so the raid does appear to be imminent. and take a look at some of the pictures that we took a couple of hours ago. at the oakland coliseum. police officers were staging there early this morning. hundreds of them. from the oakland pd and surrounding departments as well. and they had white vans. and

in the meantime, kristy siefkin is live in snow park a few blocks away. you've been watching the situation there. how is it going? >> reporter: good morning, ann. it is a lot quieter other here in large part because many of the campers at snow park have pack the up their belongings and headed over to where you are. in the main plaza. we saw many of them packing up this morning, taking their tents down, putting all of their belongings in their backpacks, and at this point there are only about two or three people standing in the park. we've seen several tents taken down. only a dozen tents remaining. that's because they received word earlier this morning, as early as yesterday even, that police would be assembling, coming over for that raid. they had gotten word of about 500 of the officers assembling at the coliseum this morning. and this of course after they had received that final notice that they can't stay here at the park. snow park one of those parks named in the warning, saying you need to move out. you're staying here illegally. if you don't leave,

kristy seifkin is in snow park in oakland and you would think that they would have taken both tents down but they have not. there are dozens that have popped up and they have popped up overnight. good morning. >> reporter: they took down the tents at frank ogawa plaza yesterday but still, many tents out here this morning at snow park. the notice that the city released on sunday said it's illegal for people to pitch tents or any kind of structure in any city park and snow park was one of the location listed in the notice. that said, the city hasn't moved in and raided snow park yet. yesterday after that raid happened there was a meeting held by protestors at the library this downtown oakland and there they discussed several options fo where they would set up again, including snow park or vacant buildings or frank ogawa plaza. if campers go to frank ogawa plaza, it would be in violation to the campers that chief jordan told them yesterday. the city had originally said protestors could only demonstrate during park hours. but now there is a question about whether the grassy area in the plaza

kristy, take it away. >> reporter: good morning to you, frank.ll amazing that this man is still alive. the man was unconscious trapped with his seatbelt on. he got out alive. the reason he got into this predicament is this power pole. he crashed into it. you can see that 90-degree angle where he ran into it and all that black on the pole isn't paint. that's remnants from flames that engulfed the car and light post. you can see a few blocks away down by the sports authority that the pavement is black as well and there's debris and rubble left over from the fire. now, according to policer, crashed police, he crashed. he had just crossed division street when he crashed into the center divide. his car immediately burst into flames. several good samaritans including a taxi driver ran to his aid. they actually picked up the sign post and used it to break open the glass in his car window and soon after that, police arrived on scene. they jumped in and one of the officers used his knife to cut seatbelt indraught man alive out of the car. >> several polic

and kristy seifkin with more on the dramatic story and some pretty amazing video, too, kristy.ood morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, frank and grace. a pretty amazing scenario in general. it's incredible that this man survived. he was trapped inside his vehicle totally engulfed in flames, had his seatbelt on, unconscious and all because he ran into this lamppost that is just over my shoulder. you can see that 90-degree angle right where his car ran into it. it's black from where that fire erupted and a few feet away in front of the sports authority, at 13th and folsom, you can see remnants of debris from the fire and some blackburn marks on the pavement. and according to police this whole accident happened around 1:30 in the morning. they say that a middle eastern man who was in his mid-30s was driving eastbound on folsom and that as he crossed division, that's when he crashed into the center divide. that's actually where that light post was located. his car burst into flames and that's when several good samaritans including a taxi driver ran to his aid. apparently they

kristy seifkin is in concord with the possible connection.d morning, kristy. >> reporter: good morning to you, grace and frank. those robberies happened in the window of just a half an hour and the description for the suspect in each of the robberies are identical. that's of course leading police to wonder if those robberies are in fact connected. the first of those robberies actually happening just before 9:00 last night. that was at the solano drive-in and these both suspects showed up and demanded money from the clerk. the employee let them clear out the register and they fled. police did go after those suspects with their k-9 search teams but didn't find anything. that brings us here to the shop and go which is a few miles away and just a half hour later another robbery happened. this one also involves two men and this time they robbed a station near the -- shell gas station at the intersection of clayton and kirker pass. just like in that first rob bring the suspects in this robbery were after the cash. >> customer was leaving the store

kristy seifkin is in oakland this morning where they can continue to gather as long as they don't pitch their tents. >> reporter: well, interestingly there's lots of tents here at snow park. now, those tents taken down at frank ogawa plaza yesterday but a lot of people have since moved over to the snow park encampment and you will remember that on sunday, the city said it's illegal to stay overnight or pitch any sort of tent or structure in any park. they specifically named snow park as one of those examples. but police haven't raided this park yet so the number of tents is growing here this morning. but they are entertaining the protestors are entertaining several options for where they will go over the next couple of days. one option obviously to stay right here at snow park. a final option is to rebuild that camp at frank ogawa plaza. now, of course, if campers choose to do this, it would be in direct violation. terms that chief jordan laid down yesterday. he told campers they can demonstrate at all hours of the day which is a different message than he originally told them a month ag

kristy, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, frank and grace. yeah, we have seen a lot of powerful images during this "occupy" movement. and we have actually just gotten some new video from protestors and police officers showing their side of the story. now, each of them trying to portray the fact that they are in the right and the fact that they were in fact the victims of the protestor-police conflicts. oakland just released this footage on october 25 the date the camp was raided and the video shows officers at 8th and washington being pelted with what they say are bottles and also with paint. now, alameda county sheriff's department also released its own video to put law enforcement in a good light this. video shows a protestor a war vet getting sick in his jail cell after a demonstration arrest. >> video clearly shows the deputies coming to his help trying to find out what's going on. they call a nurse who offers medication which he refuses. >> reporter: a video shows a citizen journalist. this footage from last wednesday shows what he said

kristy seifkin is live in berkeley with this new movement. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon to you, grace and frank. none of the tents have been set up but the protest is under way a rally going on now and just a few minutes earlier we saw protestors marching through the streets and chanting and even before that, early this morning, people out with picket signs, writing signs on the sidewalk with chalk, a marching band, a lot of activity here this morning. occupy cal isn't just about students. it's a cross-section of students, faculty, staff and union members all protesting hikes in tuition and demand changes to all public education. chopped from the top that's what occupy cal demonstrators are demanding from public school administrators and the big banks. >> what the regents are doing and the administration is doing is increasingly private advertising what should be a public university. and by doing so, they are excluding many people disadvantaged from race, social economic status. >> reporter: tanya smith is one of many who is ca

kristy siefkin in san francisco where the firefighter is in critical condition this morning.morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. grace and frank. that firefighter still in critical condition here at sf general, with severe head injuries and police still on the lookout for that suspect. they haven't found him yet. although we do have new surveillance video that was just released by police yesterday. and that was taken at the jack in a box on geary and 11th street. and that is showing both the suspect and the firefighter just before that hit-and-run accident. now, as you take a look at the surveillance footage, you can see a man that is in a white t-shirt, short sleeves, and that is the plan who -- man who police believe is the suspect in the hit-and-run accident. we're told just around 2:45 on thanksgiving day, is when both the suspect and the firefighter got in an argument. they had to be separated, and the firefighter left the restaurant, was followed by the suspect, and who then got into his mazda cx suv and then police say that man actually ran over the firefighter,

kristy seifkin is in oakland where she has been speaking with activists hoping to draw attention to the cause. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon. drawing attention is absolutely what they are doing. just in the few hours that we have been here, several people just community members have stopped by and asked us what's going on, what time are activities happening tomorrow. so definitely drawing attention locally, globally, as well. the protestors sound like they are taking a multifaceted approach. we heard previously they would be organizing in the evening, planning to march to the part of oakland during the evening hours to shut down the port before that 7:00 shift but i spoke with a representative earlier today who participates in the generally assembly here and said that those marches may start much earlier in the morning. in fact there may be multiple matches planned throughout the morning and afternoon, and protestors say they will be joined by hundreds of others in the community. >> the oakland teachers union, we have seiu, the longshore workers, all of these groups have c

kristy siefkin has more on the political fallout. >> this is very hard on a personal level. it is not is something that i wanted to do. it is probably actually why i waited until the very last minute. >> he said he had resignation on the brain ever since mayor quan sent police to raid the camp the first time on october 25. siegel says he was clear with quan that he disapproved of the decision. but that it seems her decisions have largely been driven by others in her inner sickle. >> members of the council, holding a press conference, and the chamber of commerce making demands, and the city administrators and the police chief, all pushing things in one direction. it was very hard for her to resist. >> according to siegel, removing the camp has never been the answer and thinks quan should have engaged campers from day one, laying down the lawn about what is expected and sticking to it. and the exact opposite of what many say mayor quan has done. >> what good does this do? we are spending a ton of money that the city of oakland doesn't have, for police to come in and root out t

kristy seifkin tells us what the officers were responding to at the time.g. >> reporter: good morning to you, frank and grace. yeah, just before 2:00 this morning officers were responding to a priority call about a man with a knife. they were traveling southbound on potrero and ended up on the opposite side of the street crashing into a power pole on the eastern side of potrero just south of 19th. >> they are still in the hospital from. what i understand they will be hospitalized for their injuries but they are nonlife- threatening injuries. one other thing, sobriety is not a factor in this case but by department policy the driver will undergo chemical testing. >> reporter: so those officers are in the hospital right now in good condition. but the crime scene was a mess when we arrived. the car was still crashed into the light post. the windshield broken. we did see a small tree was broken, too, just to the side of the light post. the car was so badly beaten up that one of the car doors had fallen off. we saw investigators moving that out of the way. they w

kristy seifkin is live in the oakland hills where the wind is blowing.tell. >> reporter: absolutely. the hair blowing sideways probably tells the story. gusty winds throughout the bay area this morning, red flag warning in effect and we are seeing particularly high winds in the east bay hills, the north bay hills and the diablo range. that combined with low humidity is a recipe for fire danger. that's actually why we saw that fire break out last night in napa county. it was just before 9:00 and that fire started just east of the silverado trail. apparently, gusty winds blew down a power line and that is what started the fire. now, one house did catch on fire on that 90-acre lot. additionally a carport caught on fire and several other outbuildings. dozens of homes in the neighborhood had to be evacuated. the good news is though nobody was injured. we have heard that about 50% of the fire was contained by 4:00 this morning. but crews still contending with the strong winds this morning trying to put that fire out entirely. gusty winds have been an issue in

kristy seifkin is in concord with a possible connection.rning. >> reporter: good morning to you, grace and frank. the east bay police have gotten very familiar with these convenience store robberies. if you recall just last week three teenagers were arrested in conjunction with several crimes that were committed across contra costa county. these were early-morning convenience store robberies. and just like in these robberies, they were mask men. so of course police are asking the question, if this crime spree is somehow connected. now, the two robberies that happened last night happened in just about a half hour from each other. and the suspects in each case have the same description. so once again the question is, were these two individual robberies connected to each other? so just before 9:00 last night the first robbery happened at the solano drive-in. these two masked men showed up demanding money. the cashier emptied out the cash register, gave them all the money, and then those suspects fled. police did try catch them following them w

kristy siefkin tells us why the two crimes appear to be related. vo it's a scene east bay police have grown all too familiar with: masked men walking into damage to a clothing store in a strip mall in hayward. the fire broke out around 3 a.m. on the 20-thousand block of meekland avenue. a small explosion sent the store's front window clear across the street. firefighters were able to contain the flames to one store... although there was smoke damage to four others. the cause is under investigation. a man found shot near fisherman's wharf is expected to recover. officers found the man in his forties lying on a sidewalk near taylor and north point about 6-30 last night. police say he was conscious and breathing... and his injuries are not life- threatening. so far, no arrests. an oakland hospital is investigating an attack on one of its nurses, by a patient. co-workers who witnessed the attack say it happened friday, at "alta bates summit medical center." it comes as the hospital is locked in labor negotiations... some of which deal with worker safet
