i believe we have kristin back with better sound.ell us more about what we know about this speech or statement. >> the big question is going to be whether or not president obama is going to announce new actions that the united states would take. at this point, there's no indication that the administration is planning to shift or change its policy toward egypt. we know they have condemned in the strongest terms the violence. they've called on the military leaders in egypt to restore a democratically elected government as quickly as possible. as for that all important question of what to do about the $1.3 billion in military aid the united states gives to egypt annually, the administration has not signaled, as of right now, they plan to withhold any of that aid. we do know they are constantly reviewing the aid that they send to egypt. so i think a lot of people are going to be listening closely to see if president obama announces any shift in tone or policy when it comes to egypt. again, he will be speaking here in martha's vineyard at

let's start with kristin welker in martha's vineyard with the president. any indication what we'll hear from the president this morning? >> well, i think you will here president obama continue to condemn the violence in the strongest possible terms, sort of reiterating what secretary of state john kerry came out and said yesterday. i don't expect that he will announce a major shift in u.s. policy, chris, however, i wouldn't rule out that we will hear slightly new rhetoric today and possibly some new steps that the administration plans to take. we know that the administration has been reviewing the $1.3 billion in military aid that you just mentioned. we also know that they are considering delaying a military exercise called the bright star military exercise. this is a biannual event which includes the united states and other countries, involves thousands of air and ground forces from the u.s. it's set to take place next month. so this would be a strong symbol of u.s. opposition to the violence, and the ongoing unrest in egypt if the united states were to d

good afternoon, kristin. >> reporter: hey, good afternoon. that's true. i'm all work. >> i know.t the president continues to work and is no doubt being briefed on events in egypt. at the top of our broadcast today, congressman keith ellison said he believes all united states aid to egypt should cease because president morsi was removed by a coup. was that question put to the white house press spokesman today at the briefing? >> reporter: actually, martin, a number of questions that dealt with aid to egypt were posed to deputy white house press secretary josh earnest during today's briefing. his answer continues to be that the administration it doesn't appear is going to weigh in on this issue is whether a coup was waged. if it is determine aid coup was waged the u.s. would almost certainly have to withhold 80s military aid. he said the u.s. continues to review its aid to egypt. we said what else can the white house do beyond urging the military leaders right now to end the violence? and the ongoing unrest in that country. and he really didn't have an answer for that. we asked him
