kristin fisher is there live. do we know what was in that package yet, kristin? >> reporter: not quite yet. manassas city police are still investigating, trying to figure out what was inside that bag. if they are indeed hiewp body parts that of course -- human body parts, that of course opens up more questions. whose are they and how on earth did they end up in a black bag on the train tracks right near manassas park. initially a spokesman for vre said that they had found human body parts inside that black bag. but manassas city police still haven't confirmed it although they did have a medical examiner on the scene working late into the night searching for clues. the package was discovered several hours earlier around 6:00 yesterday evening. that's of course right in the middle of the evening rush. police had to close the tracks for several hours and that meant major, major delays for vre commuters. four vre trains had to be stopped on the tracks stranding more than 1500 commuters. this woman's commute home from d.c. to manassas took more than three hours longer

kristin fisher is live in the bloomingdale neighborhood with more. good morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning, jessica. well, the water is now gone from the middle of rhode island avenue, but at the height of the storm, there were several feet of standing water in the middle of the roadway. up on the sidewalk, you can still see how high up the water came, came up to right about here and check out all the bikes that were parked here, leaves and mud are still stuck in the tires. and it got so bad, if we look over this way to our left, it got so bad that the owners of jack & company hairdressers even put out sandbags in front of the door to their business. fortunately the water didn't come up that far. by far the people hardest hit were the drivers. three cars got stuck subamericanned in this water. two drivers were able to get out to safety on their own. but one driver had to be rescued by the d.c. fire department. he had been stranded on the roof of his car, had to be rescued on an inflatable raft. several basement apartments in this neighborhood

kristin fisher joins us live from one of those spots in dheferly, maryland. -- cheverly, maryland. good morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning, andrea. here in cheverly, we definitely did see more damage than in other parts of the dmv. in this particular area, this is the tree that's causing all of those problems. just look at this home. it slammed into the roof. it then busted up their bedroom and then literally sheared off that front porch. look at that porch. it's just been stripped from the side of that home. nobody was hurt but the woman that lives there was home at the time. she was actually in the bathroom about to move to a secure location when she heard this huge boom in her bedroom. she said it just happened so fast. one second the storms were moving n. the next a three to four-ton tree had crushed her bed and destroyed the front porch. >> pretty shaken up. pretty much shaken up. like, you know, you never know if it's a bomb or a tornado is coming through. you never know. it's a life-threatening experience. i'm just so thankful to be here right now standing, talking w

kristin fisher is live outside the state department with more on the investigation into what happened in libya. good morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning. the big news this morning is libyan authorities say they have actually arrested four men in connection with the attack that killed our u.s. ambassador to libya and three other americans. also u.s. officials are now saying that they do believe that was a coordinated attack likely led by a terrorist group with links to al qaeda. as f.b.i. agents and other investigators continue to sift through all of the evidence, evidence is mounting that this was a precisely typed raid carried -- timed raid carried out by heavily armed militants. the militants attacked what was thought to be a secret safehouse right as libyan and security forces were arriving at the consulate to rescue the staff that was being evacuated. eastern libya's interior minister believes the militants were tipped off to the location by infiltrators within the consulate security force. the same minister also saying the militants were likely using the civilians protest

kristin fisher reports the bloomingdale neighborhood of northwest washington was hit the hardest. >> reporter: a d.c. driver rescued by firefighters after he drove into several feet of standing water on rhode island avenue. at least two other cars were partially submerged sunday night in the bloomingdale neighborhood. a neighborhood that's become known for major flooding during relatively minor summer storms. >> it's a valley. it's where all the rain comes and it floods out all the basement apartments. >> reporter: forest wilson spent the morning cleaning up his mud caked sidewalk. >> in the 52 years you've been here, how many times would you say it's flooded your basement? >> i can't count them. >> reporter: recently it's gotten much worse. this is the fourth time this year that his basement has flooded. >> a whole lot of water down there. >> reporter: it's the same story at every single home up and down this street. mayor gray has actually started a task force to try and tackle all of the flooding in this neighborhood. in fact, the task force held its first meeting last tuesday. so

kristin fisher explains how. >> reporter: the opening of a new metro bus facility may not seem like aig deal, but the last time that this happened was back when buses like this ruled the streets. this is the first new metro bus facility in 23 years and it took three years and $97 million to build. it's called the shepard parkway metro bus division and it sits on 16 acres of land in southwest washington. it has parking spaces for 250 buses, massive state of the art maintenance bays, a bus wash, fueling station. it's also metro's first building to obtain the lead silver certification. the greener facility is good for the environment and also good for the 400 employees that will be working here. there's even skylights in the garages. >> 400 plus employees who now have a facility that encourages and indeed makes possible greater production and workplace satisfaction. >> obviously we'll be able to improve and maintain our vehicles much better than we have in the past, especially for those who ride the buses in the southeast and the southwest of the district. >> reporter: this parking lot w

kristin fisher is in our satellite center with more on that investigation and the latest on the attack in yemen. good morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning. the big news this morning is of course the fact that another u.s. embassy could be in trouble. the embassy in yemen. we're just getting word that protesters have stormed the compound but they have not entered the building or any of the offices. so far no reports of any u.s. diplomatic personnel being injured. but of course we saw all too quickly yesterday how quickly these things can spiral out of control. also overnight, the u.s. embassy in egypt seeing more protests. overnight egyptian police clashed with protesters outside the u.s. embassy in cairo. it's really the latest in this wave of violence in egypt, libya and now yemen against the united states. it all seemed to have stemmed from the anti-islam youtube video but now they're looking into the possibility that the assault on the u.s. consulate in libya was a planned terrorist attack to mark the anniversary of 9/11. >> how could this happen in a country we helped libera

kristin fisher is live in our satellite center with more on some deadly violence. kristin? >> reporter: right now a mass protest under way right outside the u.s. embassy in yemen's capital. so far it has not turned violent. no reports of any injuries but we've all seen how quickly that can change after what happened outside the u.s. consulate in libya just two days ago. i want you to take a look at this video. it's just come in within the last hour. protesters are on the embassy grounds. you can see that. they're trying to jump over the fence but so far they have not been able to actually enter the building that houses the diplomatic offices. what they have done is removed the embassy sign on the outer wall and they've taken down the u.s. flag and burned it. but again so far no reports of any injuries. according to the yemen times, these protesters say they will not leave until the american who made the anti-islam film is executed. that film also appeared to be the catalyst for those similar protests in egypt and libya, but now the f.b.i. is investigating the possibility th

and he's expected to focus on problems in libya, the middle east and iran. 9news now reporter kristin fisher is live outside the white house with the story. good morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning, mike and andrea. president obama has plenty to talk about when he addresses the u.n. general assembly later today in new york. there's the civil war in syria, the recent attacks in libya and egypt and the possibility of iran developing a nuclear weapon. but the president is not going to be at the u.n. for long. he's taken some hits for it. the president arrived in new york city yesterday afternoon and he went straight for a sitdown not with world leaders but with the ladies of the view. in fact, the president will not be sitting down with any world leaders during the u.n. which is extremely rare. last year he had 13 meetings with world leaders during the u.n. so critics are accusing the president of putting his reelection efforts ahead of diplomacy but jay carney pointed out the president is hosting two receptions for world leaders during the u.n. not to mention he speaks with them on the

here's kristin fisher in our satellite center. she has more on the big standing ovation they got when they came out. >> reporter: it was pretty ridiculous. no doubt the real stars last night were these referees. after three weeks of questionable calls from the replacement refs, the real refs made their triumph participant return and they were -- triumphant return and they were treated like rock stars. they took the field to a standing ovation just before kickoff and they got another standing o during the mike check. that never happens. ravens fans even held up signs during the game saying "welcome back." here in washington redskins fans watching the game called it a return to credibility for the n.f.l. >> i think it was good for the game because the fans were starting to get disgruntled. >> we're happy to have the n.f.l. refs back. >> the players know they're going to do their job right. >> reporter: and they did their job right last night. look at that sign. that is so well done, so well said. there was one controversial pass int

kristin fisher is live in our satellite center with more on that. sounds like an action movie. >> reporter: it does. when was the last time that you saw referees tting a standing ovation? most time they're booed or heckled but not last night. check out the reception they received in baltimore just before kickoff. cheers and a standing ovation for the referees. that may be a first in the history of football. and people throughout the game held up signs. look at that one. "finally we get to yell at real refs. welcome back." these guys got the rock star treatment. this all happened less than 24 hours after an agreement was reached between the n.f.l. and the referees union after nearly a year of negotiations. the two sides finally reached a compromise on pensions, salaries. fans were ecstatic. coaches relieved. no one was happier about the return of the real refs plan the players. here's redskins lorenzo alexander and steven bowin. >> i say hallelujah. hallelujah. thank you lord we have the old refs back. >> you always say you don't miss something till

kristin fisher is live at fed ex field with an explanation on how they pulled off this de. od morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning. well, the n.f.l. and the referees union leaders has been negotiating this agreement for almost a year since last october. one of the big holdups has been the issue of the referees' pensions. well, it appears that finally just before midnight the two sides were able to reach a compromise and here it s. these are just some of the materials of this eight-year collective bargaining agreement. the current pension plans are going to remain in place for the current referees through the 2016 season. then it will be frozen and replaced by a defined contribution agreement starting in 2017. then finally the referees' salaries are going to increase from an average of $149,000 a year to $205,000 a year by 2019. just hours before this agreement came down, we had a real n.f.l. referee terry mccallly on our newscast -- mccauley on our newscast talking exactly about all this came to be. of course this agreement was helped a lot by the outcome of that mond
