ktvu's robert honda joins us live. he is live at the courthouse to tell us what's next in this case. robert. >> reporter: that's right, julie. since our last report, we have new information on what will happen next. inside the courtroom as most of the hall of justice was shutting down, the judge announced he will decide tomorrow morning at 9:30 whether william lynch will face a felony or misdemeanor charge of assault and could set a possible trial date. during our 5:00 newscast, the judge rejected the request. father gerald take the stand. the judge called it improper. about 15 minutes ago, lynch and his attorney came out upset and said the priest has evaded justice for years and did it again. >> ironically enough, here we have him not willing to step into a court to testify. once again, authorities protect it and don't let him come into the courtroom to tell his side of the story. >> the defense is limited in their ability to call witnesses and the court made a ruling with respect to that and i agree that the ruling w

ktvu's kraig debro joins us now with the details. a lot of kids from the bay area have been and are going to this camp, kraig. >> reporter: yeah, good morning, pam. kids from all over the bay area. in fact there were three schools out there. kids from three schools. one in oakland, one danville and one here in novato. this is san ramon. we just got back from trying to reach that school f. you saw that map up a second ago the map doesn't do how remote this school is service because it was way out there. in fact we never got all the way out there. we had to come back. no telling how many fifth grade fresh this school were at the camp. according to officials there are mostly almost already home right now. now the principal at walker creek ranch told me this morning that the kids began getting sick yesterday afternoon. the ranch school has been operating since 1963 is an outdoor residential science camp. the principal says it's not unusual of course for a bunch of fifth and sixth graders sleeping and eating together to pass a virus among

we started following this story on the ktvu morning news. police told us operation sunrise was prompted by community complaints about crime and drug dealing. the sweep targeted an area known as beat 26 bordered by 54th and 81st avenues between international boulevard and san leandro street. there have been more than two dozen robberies and 200 shootings in the area. >>> police in the pacifica area are looking for a mercedes benz that may have been involved in a fatal hit and run. they provided these photos and say it was either a white 2,000c or sl class. the mercedes may have been the second car to hit or to strike 25-year-old scott and may have been the car that killed him. the victim was not in a crosswalk. the driver of the first car stopped and is not being charged with vehicular manslaughter. >> in news of the world tonight in greece they battled police in riot gear. one motorcycle officer was hit by a molotov cocktail and his uniform caught fire before others came to his rescue. a total of 14 police officers were injured. nine rioters

ktvu's david steveson is stevenson. the coast guard just gave us new information on what's going on. >> reporter: you can see i'm standing just feet away from this clean up operation. what is more amazing is what we learned from the coast guard just a few hours ago. they tell us that about a gallon of hydraulic fluid caused this leak as they leaked from the barges engine room. >> the barge was grounded to ensure the safety of the people on board. >> reporter: the call came into the coast guard at yerba buena island at 6:30 this morning. the crew of the tug reported the barge's engine room was filling with water. the crew pushed the barge on to a sandy bar just outside the harbor at the golden gate yacht club. leaving a trail of hydraulic fluid on bay waters. >> the traffic in and out of the harbor is minimized at this point. >> we have taken every precaution that we can by placing bloom around the barge and around sensitive environmental areas. >> reporter: the barge is carrying 4,800-gallons of diesel fuel and 500 gall

ktvu health and science editor john fowler on what we've learned in a ktvu investigation. >> reporter young people will experiment. >> first it seemed harmless. >> reporter: abby used it for a month. >> not sleeping and not eating. it makes you start seeing stuff that's not there. weird but it's scary. >> reporter: this young man posted to you tube. >> i haven't eaten in over a week now. it's hard to breathe. >> reporter: both those young people say they ingested this drug. it comes in packages labeled bath salts under a variety of names. but this is a powerful new synthetic drug. they actually combine the worse effects of several street drugs. >> this may well be the most dangerous drug experience of a lifestyle. >> reporter: it's 5:00 today, poison control reported to us seven californians including one in the bay area have been hospitalized with overdoses of so called bath salt drugs. >> they have the ability to produce hallucinations, they seem to be highly addictive, they seem to last for an exceptionally lost period of time. these are hallucinations that are absolute nightmares
