we brought you this story on ktvu channel 2 news at noon. it happened on i-80 near old davis road at 10:30 a.m. the westbound lanes are still closed. tom is live as drivers are still being detoured around the crash. tom? >> reporter: we are several miles away from where the accident was but this is the backup. what you are seeing is a steady stream of drivers diverted off i-80, up i-5 to come through town to get on 113 to get back down to i-80. about that accident, here is what happened. >> the after market of the deadly crash, the big rig caught fire after hitting a car head on. they are incinerated. the driver escaped with minor injuries but the driver inside the car was dead. >> it was discovered there was a second victim in the car that was hit head on. out of the crash we have two fatal victims. >> the accident happened because the truck driver was distracted and lost control. >> he was eating and started choking. lost consciousness and drifted on to the shoulder. his rig came across all of the eastbound lanes. >> reporter: he hit two c

ktvu consumer editor tom baker is live. bridge officials say there's no reason to worry. >> reporter: what we are talking about is a giant version of this. a bolt and rod system that's suppose to make sure the bridge can ride out an earthquake and stay together afterwards. almost 300 giant rod bolts suppose to keep the earthquake shock absorption system in place. but the rods are breaking because they appear to be too brittle to handle tightening them into place. >> out of the roughly 100 of these bolts that have been installed, we've had a failure rate of a third. that's very high. these are tightened with significant amounts of force so when these rods do snap, they pop up basically. this is exactly what you see out of the field. >> reporter: the people responsible for oversight not to worry. >> we faced a number of challenges not unlike this. we found solutions in every instance. >> we have surmounted far greater engineering challenges than this one in getting this bridge constructed. >> reporter: this is going to requir

ktvu's kyla campbell is in our washington, d.c.with what the president wants to get out of today's meeting. kyla? >> reporter: president obama wants the federal government and business ceos to work together as a team and come up with a plan of defense. they say this isn't just about somebody hacking into businesses' computers. this is about -- about other countries attacking the united states. lawmakers cited a recent report showing china is behind 90% of cyber attacks against the u.s. china's main target, a company that provides access to the majority of north america's oil and gas pipelines. the federal government says these hackers want to attack our infrastructure like shutting down our power grids or gas lines. china initially denied the military was hacking into u.s. government and business computers. but just yesterday, china agreed to work with the u.s. to stop cyber attacks. >> china's massive campaign to steal technology, business practices, intellectual property and business strategy through cyberspace continues and it c

ktvu kyla campbell is live in washington, d.c. newsroom with a sneak peek at what the president will be doing. kyla. >> reporter: dave, the president says the u.s. has made great strides in recent years to create its own energy and it relies less on oil and gas from other countries. but the president says more needs to be done and he needs help from congress. president obama wants to invest there are 2 billion -- wants to invest $2 billion over the next decade in renewable sources. the president is calling on congress to create a new energy security trust. that would include research funding to improve home grown bio fuels and vehicles that run on electricity. he says imports are at a 20- year low. and they are releasing a report saying america as a whole is spending less on gas. the number of hybrid vehicles doubling over the last five years and say there is are six- times as many car models that get $30 miles per gallon or more. there are more details about the president's plan how wind and solar energy will play a role and how
