ktvu channel 2 news obtained this surveillance video showing a person lighting a fire at the chinese nsulate. last night's arson at the chinese consulate raises questions of security and safety for those nearby. ktvu's cristina rendon is live in san francisco where she has been looking into the risk for neighbors. >> reporter: well, i reached out to consulates in the bay area, they were made aware of the fire but it doesn't mean they are on heightened security and the people who live here have mixed reactions. we know of one building that has terrorism insurance because they live near the chinese consulate. some residents aren't worried, they know that they can't control what happens so they will not spend time worrying about it but one man wonders about whether the chinese consulate should move to a more secure location. >> for them, for their safety too, they should move into a high rise, you know, building. so they don't have to worry about it. >> reporter: we also explored the idea of terrorism insurance. it turns out most homeowners have this but they may not know it. businesses

reporting live ktvu channel 2 morning news. >>> ktvu channel 2 morning news' tara moriarty just spoke to an arson investigation, tara, what did they tell you? >> reporter: well, he said they will be meeting with people from the san francisco police department at 8:30 this morning to review some surveillance footage and it came from this area where all of these score muched -- scorched marks are and arson has not even seen it yet. the fire broke out here at the chinese consulate on the corner of gary and lagooner. the firefighters had the flames out within a few minutes. they got out at the entrance and poured two buckets of gasoline on the door before setting it on fire. luckily nobody was hurt and they are working with the fbi to figure out who is responsible. a consulate spokesperson is calling it a violent crime targeted at the chinese constitution in the united states and security has been beefed up and you can see there is a patrol car where they will be in and around and they will bespeaking with investigators later this morning and we will of course keep you updated. live from
