. >> reporter: this is video of coyotes taken in san francisco's glen park by a ktvu viewer. no one is sure how many coyotes are now living in san francisco but there are enough that a commission of animal control and welfare is proposing a plan. they're tracking coyote sitings online. >> the city has not done any major educational outreach push for a number of years and i think that the whole point of this is that we need to coexist with coyotes. >> reporter: sometimes the animals win, the recent rain rushed out a family of beavers, they are rebuilding. about four years ago downtown businesses thought the dam would cause flooding, animal advocates found a solution. >> what you see when martinez did this is that compromise is really possible and that there's really good reasons we do it. >> reporter: peaceful solutions to such conflicts say wildlife advocates often come through education. that the more we know about wildlife the less likely the need to kill it. >> as rob mentioned, coyotes have long inhabited san francisco's golden gate park. park officials took steps to prot

ktvu viewer shot the video of the flames. the fast-moving fire gutted the home. everyone got out safely. still no word on how the fire started. investigators are trying to figure out what led to an officer-involved shooting in hayward. we will have more on the investigation. >>> san francisco police are getting new technology to help improve work out in the field. tara moriarty explains how the new appses will work -- apps will work. >> reporter: over the next two years, officers will be able to use laptop computers in order to fight crime. it will drastically cut down on the amount of paper book and it may also expand to include cellphone technology. now officers will be able to report remotely from the field and share reports in real time. officers won't have to carry a note pad, pen, camera or gps device. this technology rolls it all into one. the chief said it will speed up the department's efficiency by 40% daily. >> to make it simple, this is in fact the back computer. this is where we can punch a single piece of information into a google search capability

ktvu, channel 2 news. >>> fire officials say a fire destroyed a senior center that was under construction for several months now. a viewer sent us this cell phone video of that raging fire. it took oakland fire crews about two hours to bring these flames under control. here's a look at the exact area of the track that bart repaired. look to the left and you'll see two rails that we'll highlight for you in green. that's what the bart trains sit on. now take a look in the center toward the right. that red line is the third rail where the ceramic insularity was damaged. the insulator houses 1,000 volts of electricity. that insulator was replaced. they were able to replace it today because crews said the rail returned to its original shape as it cooled. bart says some censors that maintain separation of the trains may not be fully up and running, forcing trains to travel slower. >> what the goal is to get the service up and running safely, and that doesn't necessarily mean that we replace every single thing that was damaged, but we want to make sure that obviously the train control and communications equipment is safe. >> ba
